A simple idea! A boomerang is a thrown item. It will loose durability if it hits a block, hits a mob, or each time it picks up an item. If it hits an item or exp. orb the said item/orb will become stuck to the boomerang which can fly up to 32 blocks and then will return to the player. The boomerang is crafted like a bow without string. A boomerang can be used as a distance weapon that will do damage equal to your fists.
Sorry for the bump, but I was going to make a topic about this until I found one. I support this idea.
However, the item should not lose durability when hitting a block, but if it does hit a block, it has a chance to drop instead of returning to you. Same could go for mobs?
