Anyways, straight to it. This suggestion is for a new hostile mob, which I currently call a Shadow due to a lack of name creativeness. Also included are its drop and uses for said drop.
Mob: Shadow
Spawn Conditions:
Like all other hostile mobs of the overworld they only spawn in light levels of 7 or less to spawn.
Rarity:
Shadows are fairly rare, though not as rare as Enderman.
Appearance:
Shadows are a human shaped mob (like Zombies and Zombie Pigman). They are black with what appears to be a dark grey vest, light grey sash, and green eyes. The eyes turn red and slant differently when hostile.
Behavior
In light levels of 8 or less Shadows become neutral, wandering until provoked. While neutral they move fairly slowly.
When attacked, or in light levels of 9 or more Shadows become hostile. This is due to them being a creature of darkness, and becoming anxious and nervous in the light. While hostile their speed increases to halfway between zombie and player (walking) speeds.
While hostile the Shadows will seek dark spots out and travel to them. They will not seek out this darkness however while pursuing a target (player or other mob).
Combat:
Facing a Shadow can be a tricky. They run up to their target and use an alternating attack, alternating between left arm swing and right arm swing. The first attack (left arm) does a small amount of damage. The second attack comes 1/4 of a second later from the right arm. This attack has no damage, but has the same effect as a Knockback Lvl 2 enchanted sword. After a brief pause, and when in range again, the shadow will repeat this attack.
Second Attack (Right Arm)
No damge: Knockback Lvl 2 effect
Drop: Shadow Mist
When killed Shadow's drop 0-1 Shadow Mist. Shadow Mist is used as a potion ingredient.
While these aren't the main uses for Shadow Mist these are a few possible alternate uses
- When used on a Torch the torch emits no light for 10 seconds. (Nonstackable)
- When used on a Glowstone block the block emits no light for 5 seconds (Nonstackable)
- When used on a mob it causes "Blindness" for 10-30 seconds. While in blindness the mob cannot pathfind, avoid hazards, or pursue targets. Also the mob moves about erratically.
Use: Shroud Potion
When Shadow Mist is added to an Awkward Potion is creates a Shadow Potion. This potion causes the status "Shroud" for 30 Seconds. When redstone is added it becomes Shadow Potion (Extended) and lasts for 90 seconds. It cannot be made into a splash potion.
While a player is in "Shroud" any new mobs will ignore the player. Mobs currently targeting the player are uneffected by the Shroud status.
New hositle mobs will only target a player with "Shroud" if the player:
- Break a block
- Places a block
- Attacks a mob
- Shrouds wears off
Shadows however are unffected by the Shroud status and when hostile can target the player regardless.
CONCEPT SCREENSHOTS
A shadow while in the dark (Neutral)
A shadow whlle in the light (Hostile) Note the shadow has just used its Knockback attack on the player
From Me:
The base idea behind this is a mob that can still bring an edge of danger when in the light other then the destructive creeper.
I love it. Not only is it unique (except for the name lol), but it has a lot of uses. Not only that, but it attacks in a unique way and has special pathfinding and behavior. Also, the pictures. Everyone loves pictures.

You all see this? This is how you present an idea. The guy gave pictures and well sorted out information. Even if you don't agree with this guy's idea, it can still be a good read. I like the idea, but I have two small suggestions:
Have this mob have the rarity equal to or greater than the Endermen.
Have this mob's appearance be simpler, as the lines on his body make it look like he's some sort of spy dressed in all black.
The sole reason for me mentioning these two suggestions is to just add some more mystery to this Shadow, if that's what you're going for.
Don't you find funny that a guy which have Sonic as Avatar suggest to add a New mob called Shadow ?
Other than that, not very convinced ... IMO, this need to be a bit rethought
I like it, a new way to jump off my chair! I mean really its an awesome mob idea. And as the people above me said that its good cause he gave pictures, I agree, I dont see many ideas with pictures in here.
And the Shroud potion could be useful for some custom maps.
Personally I don't really like this idea, but its probably just my stubbornness. That doesn't mean this isn't a extremely well thought out idea. You really took time to organize this post so it really easy to understand what you are talking about. Good Job!

The sole reason for me mentioning these two suggestions is to just add some more mystery to this Shadow, if that's what you're going for. What if they were called "Spectres"?
That's a good possibility actually.
Thank you!
Rarity I was throwing something outther but that could work too. Come to think of it, may be a little better given the potion.
Ok, I admit, I may have gone a little overboard with the stripes on the arms and legs. Though the sash and other lines I diid
- So that it wasn't a pure black skin
- So that it is possible to spot it in the dark
- Was trying to distinguish its dark apperance from the Enderman by making it look very different
Thanks for the great suggestions! You have any suggestions?
Or even simply a shroud potion effect!
This is a rarity as to my usual finds in the Suggestions thread. I support this.
I overall like it, and the idea was greatly presented, but this may just be better for an official mod.
However if the rarity does decrease then it may just be the kick that Minecraft needs.
