This piston, instead of turning on when receiving a redstone signal, would turn on and off at timed cycles (see picture above). This would act as a much simplified clock, opening and closing the circuit at determined intervals, without needing any other blocks.
To determine how much time the piston stays at each state (extended / retracted), there would be a switch similar to a flat repeater on one (or more) of its sides. By right-clicking the piston, the switch and the time value would change just like in repeaters.
Sounds... okay, I think, but I'm not sure I quite understand it properly.
When it is powered by redstone, it extends, waits x time, then retracts and waits another x to extend again. The x number would be configurable, like we do with repeaters
That would be pretty handy given the fact that it can also push and pull blocks that would conduct redstone power. That way it can break and complete the redstone signal at regular intervals to make a simple timer.
I'd appreciate something like this being in vanilla minecraft.
I would love to see a piston which can swing things around just like in the "Better than wolfs" mod!
I would love to see this a content in the game and not as mod!
"Wolves", people. Not "wolfs". Jeez, that just drives me crazy.
On topic:
This is actually a pretty good idea, and very useful for redstone people. My only complaints are that:
1. It can already be pretty easily done in the game 2. It would have to add two new blocks for just one function Well, that would have been a complaint before Jeb made pretty much infinite block ids...

Crafting recipe:
I could see it being used for strobe lighting or something, and i think if it had the option to be sticky that would make it even better.
