That wouldn't make it a circle, that would make it a sphere like our real planet earth. If you walked off the SW corner of the map, you would be walking onto the NE corner of the map which means you just walked around the world.
And you wouldn't need copies of the world you would just have to make it loop back onto itself at the edges.

Circle/Sphere Big deal. You get my point.
And also, if there were no copies, you would be able to see the edge of the world. The idea of copies is so it actually looks like the world is looping instead of chunky teleporting.
That would ruin one big feature to Minecraft. People will get bored seeing the same thing as they travel Minecraft.
The world would still be huge but it wouldn't go on forever, I like this idea because then you wont have to fill up your hdd with huge world and you wont really see the same thing over and over again because the world would be like 1 million by 1 million. I doubt you could explore all of that.
easy fix to the copies and edge of the world thing. when you come to one edge it starts loading the oposite edge(s) thus you can continue walking and eventualy make it back to where you started without noticing anything but moving terrain. this has actualy been done on alot of games but as far as i know its never been done on a game with moving terrain. the game already does this in a sense. it reloads terrain that has already been loaded. just make it so that instead of generating terrain after x blocks it just reloads whats already been created.
i also personaly think that should this be implimented then it should be possible to choose a wold size when creating a world. basicly saying that when the player sees a block that is x blocks away from the center instead of creating a new block (assuming the player has been to the edge before) it just reloads whats already been loaded.
sorry for the long read it is a great idea and i would love to see it implimented into vanilla minecraft these are just my thoughts on it
It seems like the whole idea with the real map and the map copies are the only thing that you guys think needs improvement on. I'm also thinking that it could use a button on the options menu that toggles the loop on/off. I'll edit these into the main post.
