This is mostly a lag issue, but due to lag it's almost impossible to kill ghasts without a bow in SMP. Swords either don't connect with their fireballs, or their fireballs fly off in the wrong direction. Recommended fix would be to make it so that after X fireballs (deflected or total) a ghast must hover lower to the ground for Y seconds, within jump attack distance, where X and Y change with game difficulty. Alternative fixes include making reflected fireballs have a chance of homing on return, or automatically homing when within a certain distance of the ghast.
Other ideas are very welcome.

Sounds reasonable. I think it would make more sense if they lowered themselves to lava rather than the ground though.
Thought about that, it would be like they were 'refuelling' to get more fire charges...it would just make it an even bigger nightmare to get ghast tears that way. Which might be a good thing, depending on how you feel it needs to be balanced...
