While I kind of feel the same way as copdeon01 or whatever, I do feel we need one more golem. A golem that is actually useful, unlike Snow Golems and Iron Golems, who are intended to help the villagers, not us players. Stone Golems are one of the most common Golem types, yes? Add them into the game, but use stonebrick or mossystonebrick, instead of cobblestone. We got to make the player work towards getting them, right? Also, I think they should do less damage than in the OP.
I'd go with 25% the damage and health of Iron Golems, but the damage would seem a little weak on the low end. I do think they need more health than the player, but not too much more. We're talking about stone, not iron. Oh, and the stone golem would be the last golem we should get. Why would we need gold, diamond, some other ore, or obsidian golems? I'd like to see something better at protecting us and our houses, but I don't think we need anymore ludicriously overpowered golems besides stone or maybe wood. (Okay, maybe not. I just liked them in TimeSplitters and the idea of how flammable they could be.)
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
SilverJ-17, that's what I was thinking with the sandstone golems. Different golems, the ones that don't have that much free will to just wander off, not too powerfull, actually depending on player or environment, easily healable, but then again, loosing health with time, rare and hard to obtain unless there is a "settlement".
Anyway I suppose I did go a little overboard with all the Golem stuff, but I wanted to make it so you can easily program them to defend your base. But at the same time, I don't want to add like 40 different golems. (Or even worse, make some silly Golem that uses diamonds and obsidian and is "Immune to everything and shoots death lazors!") Because that would get far to complex, and really stupid. The Main goal of this suggestion is to give a use to pumpkin farming, give you a buildable guardian who could actually defend your base. (Be your foes Players or Monsters) While also making them not too overpowered. (Which is why they need stone brick, so you can't get them on the first night. And why they need iron and gold also, so you have to at least gone mining a bit.) I thought I'd give them a little bit of a personality (Such as their dislike of left turns, which is mildly funny and also makes it easier to make patrol routes for them. ) while keeping them still as golems.
My favorite part about them is the fact they need redstone power to stay moving, because it makes it so they don't wander off. (Or if they do, they will at least shut down and you could move them back to where they belong, unlike a iron golem, which will wander away and never return.) And make it so they aren't like "Little helper guard golem who follows you around like a wolf and kills everything" because they need to have the redstone power to keep moving. (However I'm againest giving them some kind of magic redstone battery, as then they would become like a iron golem.) I want them to be useful, but also not be overpowered. (And give redstone people something else to build.)
Now there was one person who was wondering what they would defend againest. So for PVP, they could be used to guard your base from griefers, and also guard your chests. (Without some kind of safe lock thing which a griefer could spam all over someplace.) for PVM, they could be used to guard your town so you don't need to build a bunch of walls, (For those of you who want to preserve that village like look, but don't want monsters to wander in and kill everybody, or have your iron golems wander off) patrol more dangerous and unexplored parts of caves or even be used to keep your orchards from being monster infested. (I mean, most of us have had a time where we have our orchard, and we get a big tree, and when we cut it down a creeper drops on our head. Or a bunch of zombies are hiding under your trees, after spawning on top and then crawling down. The Golems could be used to prevent this from happening.)
This idea would probably be more useful for a mod though. Like redpower, as it does add a lot of stuff. (More than most other features of minecraft have, if you know what I mean.)
Thank you all though for posting constructive Criticism

You can craft both golems for yourself. Snow Golems have literally nothing to do with villagers.

It is an interesting but depressing reality that most politicians are just regular people with power. And most people would be as bad as politicians if only they could get some power.

Snow golems have literally nohing to do with anything. And a golem, that would remember the place you told hime to stop and wait for you and wander around in some small radius would be nice.
Great idea, but would the golems keep there chest the same color as the core used, because even tough it would be a good way of identifying what type it is, it wouldn't look very good.
Possibly they would have colored markings or something to make it blend in more..
shame so many people are hating on this idea because so many people are suggesting golems.
btw Gtg, your idea sounds interesting, I would love if both ideas were added to the game.

Yeah I was sort of thinking about having the core be a circle in the middle, or some kind of markings on them.
I can sort of understand why people are hating on the idea, because they aren't hating on this idea, rather they are hating on the fact that so many golem suggestions (Most of them being something like "Create magic lazor shooting golem that follows you around and eats creepers") so they are probably just turned off from the whole golem suggestions comepletely.
Oh by the way! If you are good at making pictures, feel free to make some
The Golems would look sort of like a mass of stone brick (Sort of like the battle towers golem from the mod by kodachi) with a pumpkin likeness, instead of a pumpkin. and then a little chuck of iron/gold in the center, about where the heart would be. And then Iron fists for the Iron Subtype perhaps
austin7654, thank you.
The reason people don't want your idea implemented, is because you are adding a lot of "infrastructure" blocks for the golems. Look at how the mojang ones are done - nothing new, except for a golem. Though I agree that infrastructure is a nessesity in some cases, it still makes it all look like a mod, rather than a feature of the game, adding whole other layer to it.
Minecraft is best made with KISS philosofy - you want a golem, that will guard, you make a golem, that will stop like a wolf or cat, and always return to the position after pursuing the target away. You want a golem, that shoots? You make a golem, which totem includes a dispencer, and, if you want them to be less powerful, you make them waste a block of gravel, or stone, holding one stack. YOu want them to need power? You add a furnace in the chest, and go for steampunk approach. You don't make it simple for player, if you thought that's what KISS stands for, you make it simple itself. Look at the community, look at what people created with what they had. Minecart subways, CPUs, traps and mob farms, everything up to sun detection, even despite using glitches, made in a game without small logic gates and specialized blocks. For some, it's not fun if it's easy.
Hmmm, I love how much detail you put into your post, describing the characteristics of one mob.
I'm sorry to say this, but I don't qutie agree to making another Golem. We all already have the Snow and Iron Golem, and the SNow Golem is rendered useless...
i like the idea of making golems from difrent blocks for the fact that it would make it easier in the game to do it...and i think that they should have a command like dogs where you can click to make them stand guard or follow...or have a click to bring up a menu with a list of commands..gaurd-it stands in place only moving to kill mobs then return.. patrol- it walks around the area in X block spaces from were it was told.. follow- it follows you killing mobs as it goes.
leson88, snow golems never were useful, though a little variety didn't hurt anyone yet. Come on, they don't *need* to have a purpose. It's just a nice feature, like slimes suddenly becoming worth farming. Or look at the villagers. It's "what are they", not "what they do". kingzut, I think it would be easier to just make them stop/follow, would work perfectly, since mobs aren't cunning thievs, and cunning thievs on smp will find a way anyway, one way or another, and this way they will be at least fitting, and yes, I did that on purpose. Dantprime, I hope you don't mind me posting on your tread so much.
another thing that would be nice is mobile funrace..chest...and crafting table.. golemes with these built in that can follow you. and let you use them.
or maybe a "chest golem" that would kill things and put the drops in the chest...if it dies it either drops the chest or maybe even the chest breaks and spills what was in it..
could make a walking decoy too..something that can follow or stay that makes mobs attack it not you..
kingzut, two words. "spider golem".
Built on ground,
Can told to wait.
Now that that's out of the way, you already have decoy golems, and what stops you from, say, carrying a furnace or a workbench around, not to speak of making them on place?
@GTG3000 there arent really decoys not that follow..you have snow golems but they die from rain.. and ya you can carry some things with you like crafting table and funace (not chest) but this way they are always around walking by you and dont take up room in your inventory.. it gives them a real reason for being there
