So, you've been all over the minecraft world. You've searched days and days to find some NPC's, because lets say you don't like being alone but all your servers are down. Or just because you want the NPC's to expand a bit, and you want to see them actually doing stuff. Not just sitting back all day, doing nothing. Thats where this idea comes in. This is basically a advanced GUI for the NPC's. No, they aren't quite stupid (but pretty close), but at the same time they don't really do much. My idea is that NPC's can be found all over the place (list of examples lower down this post). So now, instead of just finding undead things that try to kill you while your mining, there are actually people down there, that you can mine with. People that would be able to break blocks, gather resources, and not just sit around all day giving you that weird look while your crafting something, or building a house near their village. There would be NPC's generated all around, not just in some isolated towns that tend to be in the middle of the desert.
Full list of places NPC's would spawn, and their behaviors/drops:
Miners:
Miners would be found in mineshafts. They would stay near the chests in mineshafts, and slowly expand the mineshafts. They would be limited to breaking only stone, gravel, and dirt (No ores, cobblestone, stuff like that ) and would build those stupid wooden post things behind them. And if killed, they would drop (rare) iron picks and minor ores such as coal and iron.
Wanderers:
Wanderers would be found walking all over. They would have advanced GUI to avoid hazrds such as lava pools, cacti, and long drops. They would also go to villages if they found any, and stay in a house there until night. After that, they would move on to another town, adventuring the entire world. I think they would drop stuff like cobblestone (1-5), logs (rnadom type, 1-5), stone tools, and some rare leather armor.
Adventurers:
Adventurers would basically be some of the strongest new NPC's added. They would have maybe 30 hearts, do 3.5 hearts of damage, and upon death drop enchanted iron swords (and potions?). They would have GUI like wanderers, and search around for villages. They would be the only hostile NPC.
Hermits:
Hermits would be found in forests. They would live in neat and tidy log cabins, maybe have some pets, drop food (cooked or raw), and occasionally go out to chop trees, but being a NPC, never collect the wood. Also, there would be hidden chests in their houses with some ingots, but they would be either buried deep down or surrounded in obsidian.
Better GUI:
Better GUI would make NPC's smarter. Young villagers would run around jumping, farmers wouldnt trample crops, librarians wouldn't leave the library, blacksmiths would stay near their forge (when they're there, maybe they could set off sounds like the sound when rain touches lava?), and normal villagers would wander around, checking into houses, stuff like that. Also, they would be able to build and expand their villiage.
Wizards:
Wizards would live either in the end, the nether, or far up in the sky so far that you wouldn't be able to see them. They would have random types of towers that they lived in, would have low life but high damage range attacks, fight mobs, and would be natural such as a wolf (They only attack if you hit them first). Their houses would also be rigged with traps to keep outsiders ... well, out. And they would have hidden chests on the top floors with maybe a diamond or two, or some netherwart. And on every floor of their tower, there would be wool floors, brewing stands, and cauldrons.
Guards:
Iron golems aren't enough. They won't protect the villagers if you hit them, they only fight other mobs. So, guards would be a natural sort of mob, like pigmen. Once you hit any of the villagers (or golems), all the guards will come attack you. They would be about the strength of a zombie, and drop minor-tiered swords. They would also patrol the village checking for any mobs, whereas the golem just sits in one stop and waits.
That's all I've though of, Any ideas please out in the comments
That's a great idea, sadly i'm not a modder but I would encourage anyone else to make a mod like this, even though I can imagine it's going to be hard.
A similar mod is "Tail of Kingdoms" were you can hire workers as a bonus, but the mod is more based around building a Kingdom.
Nice!! This is a great idea, I've always felt that villagers are basically useless, they don't drop anything, don't do any damage, their only use is to rob their smithy's in the dead of the night. This would make the npc's ACTUALLY USEFULL.

I hope someone picks this up!

Whenever I hit iron golem's in survival, they just give me "the look" and walk away. This happens during day, night, and zombie invasions.
That's strange... whenever I hit them they beat the living **** out of me. *shrug*
But I do like your idea very much! Make the NPC's feel like they actually built the village they're in. Give e'm some life.
