On the level generation menu, we have an option to choose the map's shape, such as deep, long, or normal.
I'm wondering who would be in support of the idea of more options for the map's shape. For example, we could have options such as mountainous, flat, etc.
If anyone has more level "shape" ideas to expand upon this, please share.
There's a flatlands option for a completely flat map. What I'm talking about is the shape choices, like you could have an island that's basically flat, or something else.
I would love this. Especially something like random castles.
And i rate your avatar 10/5 Aurion. Yay Miku.

What's wrong with anime?
Did you know that a flashlight is a laser shotgun? Pretty cool, huh?

If the world was flat, how deep would it be?
Crater- Big bowl shape
Volcano- same, but less wide, with lava
Plateau- Tall n' flat, with steep cliffs
River- a river runs through it
Canyon- same with no river
Tower- er, maybe like a giant skinny mountain?
*moon has a black sky, stars and earth for a background, lots of stone, craters, no trees, completely dry, comes with lots of glass and silver for a moonbase, with no ore there and lower gravity, letting you jump higher. All mobs have space suit. Lava has water replaced with lava. Simple has 4 dentical circular islands with identical circular hills with identical circular trees. And identical symmetrical ore deposits.

I can't stop playing Destiny. Someone raid with me damn it.
Forest - Flattish terrain, very dense trees and foliage. Oh, and the trees are at least twice as tall in some instances.
Tectonic - Very fractured, hard-to-navigate terrain. Generates a map with different plates of different height, with some having wide, deep ravines of lava within them.
Archipelago - Generates a map with a cluster of small islands instead of just one large one.
Cave - No theme options here; this generates a fully underground map, with a full border of adminium blocks on all sides to prevent any breakout. Despite the underground nature of the map, there are certainly possibilities of large chambers being available. If implemented, there might be glowing mushrooms to give off natural light, and perhaps some small sapling stumps to provide some wood.
Ruins - Generates a normal island map, but with a variety of ruined buildings about. Some premade items and such can be found in the ruins, but there's also a higher density of mobs here.
I love all of your ideas. All my previous ideas have already been suggested, but the more we get, the more combinations there will be (combining terrain, theme, height)!
Ahh, nice, a thread's already been made that covers what I registered to talk about.
Basically, as I was waking up this morning, I had a random thought which tends to happen as my brain "starts up" for the day. Thinking about Minecraft's original template and its snow template, I ended up connecting it with in my head. Classic god-sim, started the whole damn genre. Anyway, after making that initial connection, the next idea that came to me was, of course, wondering how Populous' varied worlds would look in Minecraft, and what details or different gameplay strategies each would hold.
I know I'm not the only person that would welcome the challenge of playing in a Rock and Lava world, devoid of green and shaped only by unwelcoming stone, and instead of seas of water spanning the globe, we must contend with lethal oceans of magma. Having to build bridges to get over to new islands, instead of just swimming or taking a boat...creating a base of operations while knowing that this world is practically against you...yeah, the thought excites me. Just gotta make sure a couple trees appear by the spawn point to allow for initial setup of workbenches/pickaxes/etc (unless of course, the crafting for an R/L world can be different and we can mine stone straight-off), and away we go.
Anyway, I see that you've all had about the same idea, and have run with it. Options to choose a world-type, leave it to Random, or maybe go Mixed and have a chaotic world with ridiculously varied biomes...that's what I'd like. So, I'm seconding/thirding/fourty-seventhing your opinions.
And yes, thinking of Populous got me thinkin' of crazy god powers and smiting the unbelievers, buuut that's a little much, heh.
I disagree with being able to choose how your map is generated. I think half the fun of a map is traveling or getting to the feature you want. I'm assuming MC will get a placeable spawn point though :/

Just spur of the moment ideas.

My suggestion of different tree types.
Trees, you say?
