This is not a suggestion for Minecraft, this is a petition for correct conduct in this forum.
I find it so annoying when people reply to a suggestion saying the follows;
"Minecraft is Medival, that wouldn't fit in"
"No way! Minecraft is way Medival and should stay that way"
"Keep it low-tech, Minecraft is Medival after all"
This does not make sense and infuriates me! This content does not benefit the conversation whatsoever! The point of duscussion in this section is beneficial to Minecraft.
If you think Minecraft is Medival, your wrong. If it's anything it's a very odd form of the early technological age (Redstone, pistons, minecarts, track, Redstone laps, ect...)
I hope this is heard, because I'm about done with perfectly fine suggestions getting torn up by this terrible inconsiderate narrow-minded consent that Minecraft is Medival...
I see Dizzie's method of explaining the "time period" of Minecraft a bit inaccurate, actually.
Take the Final Fantasy series - more specifically, I will look at FFXIII, since I know that game better than the others. That game could also be defined as Fantasy Tech, yet it is clearly on a whole other level than Minecraft in terms of technological advances and such. There are flying machines, guns, robot-dogs, AI-systems...there is a lot of advanced technology that, hopefully, Minecraft will never reach (honestly, if we start getting the capabilities to create AI-systems...I would be terrified. Couldn't you just imagine someone creating GLaDOS and screwing us all over? Anyways...). Additionally, I would find "Fantasy Tech" to naturally lean towards the more advanced technology and weaponry, in addition to implying that the technology is merged with magic. Which, in Minecraft, it is not.
True, we have redstone, that magical dust that holds an electric current. And we have the ability to enchant weapons with magic. Yet I would not say that either of those exactly fit under "Fantasy Tech", as either the magical or technological aspect of them is not incredibly evident.
The fact is, there really is no good way to define Minecraft. The people who say that "Minecraft is medieval" are wrong, because Minecraft is not medieval, but their point does still stand that Minecraft is not meant to have advanced technology - it just doesn't fit. Attacking those people in this thread does no good to the community at all - while they shouldn't be using such terrible terms to define Minecraft, the fact is is that there really is no excellent way to define Minecraft, except perhaps as "Basic" or "Simple" - though even then you could debate that Minecraft, in fact, is not basic or simple since people have created basic computers using redstone.
In short, these sorts of threads are useless. True, Minecraft is not medieval, but calling those people out and resorting to calling them "narrow-minded" does nothing but reduce you to beneath their level. They, at least, don't try and fight back with insults.
This again? I mean no offence, but this has been discussed into the ground. I think it's generally agreed by most of the Suggestions forum...or at least by the experienced/intellignet members, that you pretty much have to accept that Minecraft is it's own little nonsense era. There's still some disagreement over how advanced that is or even should be, but honestly for every person that can make a case for Minecraft being Medieval, there's someone else who can point out things to support Early Industrial, or Post Apocalyptic...and then there is the ultimate shutdown argument, "We have exploding suicide shrubs, healing comes in a bottle, and placing eyeballs in a ring of weird rocks takes you to a bizzaro world where dinguses on giant pillars sustain the life force of a dragon while thousands of slendermans mill about below." Clearly, whatever setting Minecraft has, it's not our world.
Minecraft is post apocalyptic, hence the zombies, lack of civilised life etc. (not including villagers, they're demented)
Yeah, that's my idea.
1,000s of years into the future society was wiped out by a virus that mutated civilians. in an attempt to escape of it people hid underground in strongholds that became their tomb. This caused all but a handful of people to die. Now, long after this, the survivors have evolved and live simple lives in villagers. Though one human from the old society was buried and preserved in the dirt/sand/ice and is the only 'pure' human left. He finds that nature has taken back the world and that among the familiar animals and terrain are strange things such as gigantic spiders, mutant things shaped like penises, islands covered in fallout with mutant animals, evolved humans in medieval-like villages, seemingly sentient garbage, a few remaining zombies and some strange new minerals that have otherworldly qualities.
Just because a game is low-tech doesn't make it medieval.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
What gets added to Minecraft has nothing to do with a particular theme. It gets added because it is necessary, something that players can be creative with, or things that are just plain fun.
Also, as this is not a suggestion AND this has already been discussed into the ground, I'm gonna lock this. Theme has no bearing on whether or not a suggestion will work with Minecraft. Period.
