So I've had several ideas for mobs for a quite a while, and I've finally decided to post this on the forum. Many of these ideas are meant to give variety in the mobs we encounter in the world of Minecraft.
I'll start off with ideas for animals.
Horse
Yes, this is a long suggested idea for a mob in Minecraft, but I have several other mobs later on in this post that tie in with the horse. Anyways, the horse would appear in the desert and plains. The player is able to tame the horse with an apple and it can be ridden with a saddle (make it craftable) for quick transportation. Additionally, a small wagon with a chest in it can be attached to the horse for it to pull. The horse would drop nothing upon death because it is not meant for anything besides transportation.
Wild Boar
The wild boar is basically a reskinned pig with slightly different behaviors. The wild boar will only appear in the rainforest. The AI is almost the same as a pig's, except the boar will charge at the player if provoked. The wild boar would drop pork and perhaps a tusk if someone can find a use for it.
Flamingo
Well, it's a bright pink bird that inhabits swamps. It's mostly just for show but will also drop meat when killed.
Crocodile
The crocodile would inhabit the swamps and rainforests, and possibly oceans of Minecraft. It spawns in groups of 3 or more and will only attack if provoked by the player. Additionally, crocodiles will actively hunt down nearby wildlife. Upon death the crocodile would drop a crocodile scale or hide. The scale could be used for potions and the hide could be a substitute for leather.
Anaconda
The anaconda inhabits the rivers of Minecraft, with a higher spawn rate in rainforests and swamps, and will not spawn at all in snow biomes or deserts. Upon death it would drop scales which like a crocodiles, could be used for potions.
Scorpion
Yes, scorpions have been suggested before, but my idea is slightly different. The scorpion would spawn in a similar fashion to Silverfish, using a modified sandstone block in the desert biome. Several will spawn out of these blocks at once and are hostile towards the player. Upon death they drop venom, which can be used in potions.
Bees
Another mob that spawns similar to Silverfish. Bees are found in the plains, forest, rainforest, and mountain biomes of Minecraft. They spawn out of behives that can be found on the undersides of trees and on the ground. Upon attacking the beehive, the bees will become hostile and swarm the player. If you break the behive, honey would be dropped.
Now for some hostile and friendly mobs.
Pigman
Though not an original idea on my part, it's highly wanted and I support it, so I am including it in this thread. The Pigman is basically a reskinned villager and live in villages identical to Testificates. The only reason for including these is because variety is the spice of life.
Village Guard
Because Iron Golems have a relatively low spawn rate, villages can be wiped out in only a few nights. These village guards (or pigman guards) would weild iron swords or bows and would have a rare chance of spawning on a horse. Additionally, village guards have a chance to spawn with leather armor, with a rare chance of spawning with iron armor. These villagers would patrol the streets and land around the village and attempt to dispatch hostile mobs. Out of a village of 15, only 2 or 3 villagers would be guards.
Skeleton Cavalry
As promised, the horse ties in with several mob suggestions that I am including in this thread, including the Village Guard. Skeleton cavalry is just a skeleton riding a horse. They have the benefit of higher movement speed and would spawn in groups of 2 or more. As an added idea, they could take part in the new village seiges that involve zombies. If the player were to kill the horse, the skeleton would remain, and vice versa.
The Mimic My last and probably most original mob idea is the Mimic, a creature with no true form. They look and behave like natural blocks and will only attack when a player walks within 5 blocks of them. They take the appearance of 3-block high cacti, 3-block high wood trunks, and 3-block high stone. Chances are if you see a random 3-block high pillar, it's a Mimic. Upon death they drop whatever they were made of and possibly some other item to be used in potions.
