Alright I know the idea of Diamond Golems has had several threads made for it but I don't believe anyone has thought of it in this way, so just to make sure my idea gets seen I've made an individual thread for it, I hope it's different enough to justify that.
Obviously thirty-six diamonds is quite an undertaking for most of us. I've been trying to think of some ability with both pros and cons that would justify such an undertaking. As you know Lightning is extremely rare and so are Super-charged creepers. What if Diamonds Golems could shoot lightning? It would be extremely effective against virtually all enemies while making creepers ( !) even more dangerous than before.
In order to add an additional element of challenge to making them you could make the central block of the construct some sort of charged diamond, perhaps using red stone, or even a totally new item like thunder stone, which could appear very rarely in single block veins beneath level 18 or something, just like diamonds, perhaps even lower. Maybe it would require specific conditions in order to spawn?
And also, the Iron Golems have a look that suits them already, but in order to add some uniqueness to Diamond Golems I think they should have a more jagged shape, perhaps something close to the Frost Atronachs from Skyrim.
Anyways, that's all I have for now, perhaps my brain will churn out more details later, what do you guys think?
It could use some improvement.
I don't think constructing it should use exclusively diamonds. It should use two thunderstone blocks (the block form) that you suggested, with one diamond block on top of them to sort of form something like this:
With wood being Thunderstone.
The thunderstone should also drop 2-4 pieces of thunderstone, and should be orange in color. It should act like redstone when placed but wouldn't have the same crafting recipes. Instead, it would be craftable in to thunderstone blocks (like any other ore) and could possibly be used for different crafting recipes.
Also, I think that the thunder should be nerfed a bit. The diamond golems should shoot a projectile similar to the ghast fire balls that deals 5 hearts of damage, sets the target on fire, and additionally supercharges creepers. Basically, making it take a while to kill the target (the fire kills it and the damage speeds up the process).
Also, player-made ones SHOULD drop 5-7 diamond. If they spawn naturally in NPC villages, they SHOULD NOT drop diamond and instead drop a few pieces of thunderstone.
They should also follow you if you carry a rose (since the iron ones present NPCs with roses) in case you construct one but you don't like where you put it. The natural ones, if they spawn, shouldn't follow you if you present them one.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

Iron golems are enough.

Honestly, the former is OP and the latter is UP
