EDIT: Sorry, first post was just the two pictures. The new interface made me post this idea unfinished when I was entering tags by mistake. I have now fixed the post to what it should have been.
With the new update, it is finally easy to trigger double doors with redstone. I like it, but I'd like to take it a step further...
or make a redstone door
I would like to be able to make a "redstone door". It would look and function ingame exactly the same as a normal wooden door, except it would trigger redstone when open, and off when closed. This way we can finally make double doors that open when one of the two are right clicked by putting two of these together, or detect NPC villagers opening a door, etc.
What is a "redstone door"? We can already make doors that are activated via redstone.

I'm sorry, I posted this topic before I was done. I'm not used to the new interface, I was entering tags, and I hit enter, and after the third tag, it posted instead of putting the tag when I wanted to. I updated the post now though.

Sorry again, the confusion was my fault. I posted earlier just the two pictures be mistake, because of the new interface. This is just a mild misunderstanding, so please don't flame eachother or me about it! Thanks for your intent though, based on what you both read at the time.

Understandable. I have seen many who lacked the luxury of that excuse and were merely terrible suggestion makers. Pardon my cynicism.
But I do not see any great purpose for this. Why would anyone care when NPCs open a door? And you can use a redstone mechanism to make double doors open in sync already.

It does not seem very useful.
If you used these you could make true double doors that would not require pressure plates. Both doors would open almost instantly as soon as one of them was opened. So the "trigger" to the double doors would be the opening of one of the double doors.
This would be useful for example when I was trying to make nicer houses for the npc villagers. It is tough to use double doors, because they only open one of the two doors (and sometimes push eachother in a way that none go through). If I use presure plates, the NPC's are often dumb and stand on the pressure plates, keeping the doors open all the time from inside the house. I can't put pressure plates outside, because then the zombies would get in. So in this situation, redstone double doors would be a nice and easy feature.
They would also be useful for nice doors to your own house. As it is now, to open double doors simultaneously you need to somehow trigger then with redstone. The easiest way is with pressure plates, but that doesn't work well with zombies on the other side (because then the zombies would open your door). So that would help here too. Clicking a button makes you have to look somewhere other than the door, and just doesn't feel as awesome as opening the two doors yourself.
Those are the two scenarios that made me think of the idea.
Other ideas... Well it could be used as a hidden trigger in challenge maps, etc etc. Idk really, didn't think much more about it

A properly-wired mechanism opens both doors. And double doors do not require plates. Any switch will do. But I digress.
This seems more an issue of villagers needing better AI (less stupid) than a need for more redstone devices. But I suppose it may be useful to some. I see no reason to oppose it...But also little reason to support it. However, I suppose "little reason" outweighs "no reason" in that scenario. Support given.

So, what do you think!?
