Apples are dropped from 1 in 200 leaves. They are a rare food. currently there are 4 types of trees: oak, spruce, birch, and jungle. Why do only oak leaves only drop this rare and special treat. My idea is that each leaf type has a different special drop.
Oak: apples
The rate at which they drop is fine and apples are a special treat.
Spruce: berries?
Berries could be used for potions. Perhaps they are poisonous berries and cause the currently unused disoriented effect. Or maybe it can be brewed with a water bottle to make juice.
Birch: Birch bark
Can be made into 8 paper or used in a furnace for 16 uses.
Jungle: Cocoa beans!
Cocoa beans can be made into cookies and are used for dye. Currently only found in dungeons and abandoned mineshafts making cookies extremely hard to obtain and almost useless.
I think that each biome should have a reason for visiting. Of course you want to go to jungles, but who really wants to go to a taiga? This would give a reason to explore the world and find what it has to offer.

I go to taigas for the specific type of bark and leaves offered and the aesthetic appeal of snowy hills. We do not need excessive tree drops added to this game.

The rest...I see no great need to invent new drops for this.
