Ok, so i have a few thoughts in my head for gold, but I need more time if i'm going to put them out.
Therefore, I made this.
You give your suggestions for ways to bring gold from sucky to epic.
I will put mine up here, along with yours.
Mine:
gold chain
Crafting: multi-staged.
Stage 1: 4 gold nuggets in a circle (like a clock out of gold nuggets without any redstone.) this makes a link.
Stage 2: 3 links, diagonal. this makes a chain. However, at this point it still can't be used.
stage 3: an "e" made out of gold ingots. this makes a claw. it will go on the end.
stage 4: claw with a piece of redstone next to it. This makes the claw active.
Stage 5: chain in middle, claw in top right. This makes the gold chain.
Usage: right click to extend without grasping. this will harm whatever it hits (and break any blocks weaker than brick) left click to extend and grab. It will bring back whatever it hits to you. If weaker than diamond ore, it will come back as an item. If diamond ore or stronger, it will come back, do damage, and just float there mid-air in front of your face. if bedrock, it brings you to it, and still harms you.
It's usage bar lasts about as long as a diamond pick, and when used up, it doesn't break. It just becomes inactive. It will require "re-lighting" to be able to extend and grab things again. this is done by placing it on a crafting table and putting redstone to the direct top-left.
extend range: 18 blocks.
enchantments: longchain (extends 5 more blocks each level, ending at level 5.) price: 5 levels per level.
Penny-pincher(can bring back diamond ore as an item at level one, diamond ore+ at level 2 [excluding bedrock]) price: 3 levels per level.
Blaster(can break progressively harder blocks. ends at level 7.) price: 1 level per level.
Liquid snatcher (grabs water source at level 1, flowing at level 2[they come back with the bucket texture pack, but just are stated as water. place it, it becomes a source block regardless of the kind grabbed. You also don't get to keep the bucket.]) price: 3 levels per level.

So it's a grappling hook made out of Gold? You know i'm kind of running out of gold from golden apples. It has enough use already. Plus, diamond or weaker? Gold pic can't even mine a iron ore. It can't even mine a gold ore. So gold is that weak. I doubt a claw would make it that much stronger.
