The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
Originally I came here to ask if this was possible, and then I decided that maybe I should just post it here in this topic. I've looked around Google and I haven't heard anything about this. But, I think it'd be cool if there was a way to either extend the character/text limit in Minecraft or maybe even make it so there are two or three lines of possible text instead of just one. A plugin or a change to Minecraft would work either way. It would benefit roleplayers, debaters, and just general long-talkers. Also if someone were to ever make a very long list they wouldn't worry about running out of room.
minecraft isn't really a chat system, if you want to talk to someone the best way to do it is probably through skype as the text is much easier to read, and when your words go onto a new line the whole word moves down instead of just the word being cut off and carried on on the next line (if that makes sense)
I think there have been mods created that do that. They are actually very useful. If you go over the limit of text in a message, it creates a whole new message to fit the extra words in instead of cutting off the rest of the message. You should check it out.
There was a really useful chat mod (I cant find atm) Improved Chat or something. Only problem was that it clashed with a lot of other mods (that had nothing to do with chat weirdly enough)
Chat does need to be improved, it is very basic right now, they need to either make it easier to modify the chat system so we can use mods, or improve it themselves so mods arnt needed for it.
With the mod you could type endlessly and it would just cut it into portions to make it work with the current chat system. You could scroll through past chat from that logged in session, copy/paste, display links etc. All the basic stuff you dont realize are important until you play minecraft and are trying to show someone a bit of text or look back to see what you missed while you were afk.
I've made multiple suggestions about chat but they are mostly ignored, as the majority of people dont care, though I think the RP community would love improved chat in vanilla.
