Well, they shouldn't take any environmental damage. You can use a lava blade. They should only take damage from arrows, explosions, and mobs (players are technically mobs).
It's not as simple as not drowning, This thread borderlines copying morshu9001's thread, but here is what I posted there. Iron Golem traps could feasibly use fall damage, lava blades, cactus, or pistons pushing blocks down to cause suffocation to kill them, perhaps not as effectively as drowning, but the problem remains. We can't make Iron Golems invulnerable to all of that, so we need to solve the problem at the drops end.
I know this thread is very similar to mine, but it's likely that he just had the same idea. I don't care if there are multiple threads about the same thing.
It really doesn't matter that much. Jeb IS working on fixing this, he said so himself. We just need him to do it before they release it. More threads means more publicity.
