The idea behind high and low tides would be a pretty interesting idea actually. That could also encourage the idea for larger sandy areas (beaches) on the edges of biomes that huge water expanses (oceans) beside them. I know in.. patch 1.1 I think it was they changed the generator some to have more sandy beach like areas, but I have not really noticed much difference. Editing this post. I forgot to mention that if you got really creative you could build some pretty cool structures around that high and low tide. To raise the ascetic value of such a landscape.
This would ONLY be for oceans.

Water does not destroy blocks, no it would not ruin it.
