This could be just me and with things like this it usually is but I was wondering what other peoples opinions would be. First off I just have to say that I love the ravines and abandoned mine-shafts that were added to this game. As for strongholds I have no opinion as I have not taken the time to find one nor have I stumbled across one yet. However, I would just love to come across fewer abandoned mineshafts and ravines I just feel that even though you can't see many of them from the surface I have truly found more than my fair share of these things while mining and they are getting quite old. Again I was just wondering if I was alone in this way or thinking or if there are other people who would like to see less of these as well.
They do become annoying when you're trying to hollow out large underground areas (and keep them nice and uniform).
It'd be nice if caves were kept in their massive state, but reduced in frequency somewhat. That would deal with the overabundance of iron without making underground features impossible to find.

So is there anything we as players can do to make an issue like this .. noticed? Maybe start a petition some how to get the views of quite a few more people. Can't really say I have ever been good at starting a movement or causing any kind of change.
Dude, learn to use the right "too".

Anyway, I agree. They need to make caverns harder to find. It used to be a big deal to find one, now they're everywhere, and resources are easy to get.
Actually. The random underground mines imply that steve didn't just show up from no-where. It implies a background for minecraft beyond "Oh. Some dude found a endless world." It's like "There was people like you here before. What happened?" The strongholds should have readable books that could hypothetically change based upon what you've done. (Meaning if you've searched for and destroyed NPC villages, killed all the squidwards and looted it all, the books would show that, they would detail evil things like wars and killing. Where-as if you avoided villages/ only passed through villages it would reflect the positive nature of you.)

Ehhh not sure about that. Not only is that off subject completely lol, but I like minecraft not having even a remote story line. Games that books you can read.. I just tossed that crap aside and kept playing. If I want to read a book I'll bust open some Clive Barker or Stephen King. Back on topic however I am glad to know that I'm not the only one who feels that minecraft has way to much open space below ground. Someone said that the 1.2 seems to more spaced out caves. I truly hope this is the case. Can anyone think of any way to get this idea noticed by the people behind minecraft maybe?
