In the weekly snapshots, I just cannot play. Please don't say "Don't get snapshots" because this probably will not change in 1.2. Anyway, I just can't play. I always starve to 1/2 heart of health and then die from some stupid thing because there are too many sheep and not enough cows, pigs, or chickens. I don't have enough time to start a farm, and spiders also seem unusually rare so fishing is also out of the question. Anyway, please tell Mojang to make chickens cows and pigs more common.
I have no problem finding chickens. I find them everywhere. I also found A LOT of pigs and cows and I mean A LOT i got over 40 pieces of food in the latest snapshot. I find spiders so often also. You just have a lot of bad luck

Unfortunately, the minecraftia economy is not what it used to be, It is bordering on depression, as the rising demand for leather and beef is driving the cows into being an endangered species. With recent discoveries, such as the necessity of leather in creating longer books (which have become more popular), cows have been hunted to great lengths. Chickens have also been hunted to smaller populations, as their feathers are now valued in creating calligraphy pens. With cows in very short supply, sheep have become dominant. If you look closely, you'll see the sheep that have survived are those that have learned to snatch up grass before other creatures.

Are youbored of minecraft? It's not the new features. I'll give you a hint:It's the terrain generation. Go play a map generated in 1.7.3 or earlier, then tell me you don't agree.
Spawning was reduced (not removed) because of breeding being implemented (so there can't be 200 cows roaming around everywhere).
On a related note, passive mobs no longer despawn.
However, it's almost impossible to die of hunger most of the time:
Wheat farms, even small ones, provide enough wheat to produce plenty of bread. It takes approximately a half of a Minecraft day to get a decent one set up, there's absolutely no way you can have "no time to make one"
Apples drop from oak trees. Chop a few down and look for one to drop, I always find them useful.
Mushrooms are very common in swamps, and so are trees. This makes stew an extremely useful food.
Zombies drop rotten flesh and spiders drop spider eyes. Although they poison you, this poisoning will not kill you, and they will save your life in some situations.
If you can locate them, a single melon seed can start an entire farm in a few Minecraft days.
NPC villages have pre-made farms ripe for your picking.
Bones are somewhat common during the day after all the skeletons have died. Collect them for instant growth on most things (bone meal).
Fish are easy to collect if you manage to get sticks and string (two pieces of string, a single spider can drop this much!).
Pretty much, it's almost impossible to go hungry, people just don't think about what they could do.
Oh wait! There is!
