If you don't know what ambient (cave) noises are, google them before you reply. Ambient noises scare some people out of their pants. Some of us like the other noises in minecraft, like the music, so we don't want to turn our whole sound off. I tried deleting all the ambient noises in the minecraft sound file, but I still heard them. If we were allowed to turn off these horrific noises, those who don't like them could enjoy an ambient noise free Minecraft, and those who liked them could enjoy Minecraft with them. How about it?
I REALLY want a mod of this type. Please, please? The OP pretty much said exactly what I've tried and failed with. I have to play on Peaceful with the volume off.

Let’s play good guys against bad guys… Yes. Let’s play that. Are you ready? You’re the bad guy. And when you’re bad, you just run. That’s fine right? Well… Shall we play?
ambient is the nature/description of something.
Animal noises are an ambiance of minecraft's nature.
Cave noises are ambiance of caves.
But yes, I think ambient noises from caves should have an option.
I once listened to all the cave sounds, home alone, at night, with my lights turned off. BIG MISTAKE

The only sound mod I've seen I'm worried may overwrite some of the .class files in ModLoader. Is there any ModLoader-compatible one, and if so, link, please?

I've tried that already. Minecraft automatically makes sure the noises are the right ones upon startup.

I think I found a way to remove them. I haven't tested it yet but it seams to work for the guy on the youtube tutorial. make a note pad file, type in whatever you want, and save it as cave.ogg. then go to your .minecraft folder then to resources, to newsound to ambient to cave. you should see 13 sound files named cave1 cave2 and so on. name a copy of the notepad you made earlier after each of these files and then replace each cave sound track with the corresponding note pad. after this you shouldnt hear cave sounds any more.
WARNING: make sure the note pad is saved as a .ogg
I am using windows, if you are using a mac this might not work
If you dont like ambient noises or pigs, cows, ect., then ur in luck. when you open minecraft, click options then click volume/music then at the bottom right it says "Ambiebt" turn that down to 0%. there u have it

The option to do that is only in 1.7 onwards. The original post is over two years old so the version the OP was using wouldn't have had that option. I have the same issue with 1.6.4 as I play mods in it, and the fact you cannot disable the ambiance is a huge nuisance. Utterly worthless noise, IMO, as it doesn't relate to the game world environment in any organic way so it takes you out of your immersion in the game. It's what professionals who work in vg audio would call "a really dumb idea". But this is because in the beginning they got an low-talent amateur to do MC's audio and I guess that even though they're about to hit 50 million sales worldwide, they refuse to replace him and get someone who can improve the audio environment in MC to the level it ought to be because he's a "friend" or whatever. Bros before quality! But yeah, they finally decided to give us an option, very late, to just turn that garbage off, although it's not any use to those of us who still use older versions for one reason or another.
I used to poop my pants when I heard the cave noises, I got used to them after a while but I still cringe when they play, so I think there should be a way to change that.
Support.

No, cave noises, silly.
I said that I wanted to hear the other noises and music. Read the whole thing first.
Creepers. That is all.
Some sound good, others very creepy. I think only the creepy ones should have an option.
Why does everyone think I don't have an avatar? Is there anyone who can see the one black pixel.

Try again, but with or playing.
Now we're talking mildly disturbing.
Edited Sound Files for Silenced Cave Ambience
Take all the files from the ZIP and put them in the following directory:
C:\Users\Main\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\resources\newsound\ambient\cave
Or wherever else your .minecraft folder is. If this didn't work, please let me know.
