Experience, or XP, is something that has been a big aspect of Minecraft since 1.8. But it also is flawed.
Combat isn't the only thing in Minecraft. In fact, it's hardly one of the main things. As the name implies, Minecraft is for mining and crafting, or building. Then why doesn't you get experience from doing the two main things in Minecraft? I'm not saying combat is minor. But it doesn't make sense for it to be the only source of XP.
My suggestion: you get XP for these as well. In order for it to be balanced, you would get 1 experience orb for each 15 blocks you mine, and 1 for every 10 blocks you place.
"But Homem Pigman, that's way too overpowered!" Well, you'll get only a few XP for each mining trip, compared to what you can get with a night of fighting that is a very small amount.
What do you think? Personally, I think that it gives more meaning to Minecraft's prominent features.
I like the concept, but I think it could be done better. Such as: You get 1 XP for using up a wooden pick, 5 XP for a stone pick, 10XP for an iron pick, and... well, you get the idea. Because anyone could just get a few torches, and go on a placing/breaking spree. Even with mob grinding, you need to put in some effort to build the grinder. Forcing you to use up a tool would neutralize that problem.

No that would be way too overpowered. If you got 10 XP for each time you break something with an iron pick, you would increase in levels way too fast for too little effort.
And torches don't count for that. As for "go on a placing/breaking spree", well, if you intend to cheat you can just breed some pigs. Did you read the entire post?
...You could place and remove blocks constantly to exploit it.
A good way to get experience by mining would be Experience ore.
A good way to get experience by crafting would be get XP when you craft something for the first time, and more advanced items would give more XP (crafting your first torch would give 2 XP, crafting first Brewing stand would give 20 XP, and so on).
I'm so sad people don't bother in reading the whole post.
Oh I read it. Here's my thoughts... You don't *have* to get enchantments. It's there if you want to work for it but only if you're willing to kill monsters.

I meant to say, that every time you break a pick. As in, when the pick runs out of durability and you can't use it anymore.
He did, reading your post doesn't make everyone agree with you. If you made a post to explain why your favorite color is best, I would say you're wrong, it's cyan. You can't reply to an argument with an assumption that they didn't read you post.

Wrong. He said:
"One of the main reasons that enchanting and levels were added was so that combat would be better. So you just want to throw that out the window?"
But my post had already covered that: "Well, you'll get only a few XP for each mining trip, compared to what you can get with a night of fighting that is a very small amount".
Yeah, I suggested something similar; reward mundane actions with just a little bit of XP to encourage players to perform said actions... With automated farms, few people now bother farming or even fishing, if those activities, as well as mining and chopping trees were rewarded by some XPs, this would be a good incentive to perform those activities as often as possible. I like your addition of including crafting and mining in there...

I see. That would be more balanced.
