So, we've all been PRETTY excited about the mod api feature, but, I think there are a few things it needs.
#1. The mods and texture packs page should have a list of mods installed, with three buttons: Enable/disable, edit, and remove. Enable/disable would allow you to turn mods off, like changing a texture pack. But, any mod item in your inventory would be changed to a special item which its name would be "(Mod name here) block/item (ID here)." Whenever you re-enabled the mod, it would be back. The edit button would be used for configuring settings to a mod, and the remove button, well, use your imagination.
#2. Server mods. If a server has a specific mod you don't have, joining the server will automatically ask you if you would like to get the mod. Yes would download and add it instantly to your minecraft, no would bring you back to the server page. Once you got the mod, if it was a yes, then it would give a notification (like completing an achievement) and would automatically disable it, but you could re-enable it.
#3. So... what exactly is the point of having points in survival when you die? Bragging rights only. But.... what if the points you earned could let you buy/unlock things in a digital catalogue? You could unlock special mods and texture packs and maybe you would have to even be able to get/make your skin through the catalogue. But, you could also maybe submit your skins, mods and texture packs to a Mojang hired approval staff, and they would add it to the store. But, this would need to be part of the mod API, because you could EASILY make an infinite XP mod, meaning infinite points. So, it would have to make a point distribution system based on the health, power and good/evilness of any mod-added mob.
So, what else do you want in the API as a feature? Discuss and suggest here!

would be impossible, or would require a update to come out like every day from mojang.
To turn a mod on and off (and install) you would need to reboot your minecraft. But that is fixed by adding a "save" button, which would reboot it for you.
i was thinking some sort of tag system that would allow mods to use blocks and items from other mods without actually having support for them (a mod could include modified versions of blocks that have the "basic" tag (not crafting tables, pistons etc.) to improve mods like redpower, better blocks, and super slopes)

I know. You would tell it what you want, then click the "Save/done" button and it would give you a message saying "You need to restart Minecraft for your changes to take place."

What would be so impossible about that?
Thanks!
