So I rather liked the terrain in the previous week's snapshot where there wasn't any caverns or giant holes awkwardly carved into otherwise smooth hills or cliffs. I do miss the little bubble caves, but as a whole, giving the world no caves to explore added a feeling kind of like what was had in the Classic worlds. We actually had to create MINES to get any resources in worlds made in that build. Nowdays, we simply find a giant hole and reach the bottom of the map, mine diamond and iron until we're set for life (well, maybe not so much on diamond).
What if there was a world type where, if not no caves appeared, very few caves were part of the map? It would be a normal map, generate the same way any normal map would, but instead of having this web of caverns below the surface, maybe just one or two per region? They could be big, too, like actual caves you'd be able to explore for quite a ways.
I personally think a cave-less world is a very boring one. However, I wouldn't object if this ideas was implemented in world creation by expanding the current options, like flat land and structure generation, to include things like:

I think people really want to have more control over how worlds are generated and I can respect that. As long as we aren't advocating that
Actually, I like that idea better. It only seems fair that, if Minecraft really is about building what we want to, we should be able to do it in worlds we want! But that's my fuzzy logic, anyway.
Sorry-I don't agree, I personally think there needs to be more in the world to make it more exciting. What fun is walking around the world with no or very few maps-most of the time I adventure out to find these caves and ravines-it's the best part of adventuring out into the world. Without these-what would you do? Look at mountains and rivers-not too exciting.

I think the people to be given a little more control to. We should be able to toggle ravines on, rare, and off as well. I like your idea, except like the person after you said, there needs to be a rare option as well, not just on and off.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
