Many ridiculous things get posted on the suggestion forum, but this post is for the discussion of uses for ores already in the game. Not ideas for some super rare ore that would dominate over everything else. anyway, I have a few of my own ideas, and maybe you guys could branch off of that.
Iron- some form of tool/block with The ability to repair wood, stone, and iron tools
gold- Possibly a Currency that could be used for something
redstone- Redstone block for building
diamond- A Gun powder Grinder, Grinds gravel into gun powder (taken from SDK's gun mod)
lapis- Honestly no idea
coal- Doesn't need anymore uses
I honestly dont think the game needs more tools and armor, but thats just me. Maybe we can get Jeb to see our suggestions and he will be able to add some some more features to the already exsiting ores, and then at some point we can get new ores
Quite frankly, what I had in mine with repairing tools wasn't simply combing broken down tools, in order to make new tools, but combing sticks and the source material to repair the tool. Maybe, that's the iron thing (Anvil?) could be for. You got an input for the tool, a stick for the handle or hilt, and the source (wood, stone, gold, iron, and possibly diamond) and it takes time. I'm not sure how it would work though. Would the player have to stand there in the entirety, simulating the repairing process or can they move about, like with a furnace? What about lightly damaged or heavily damaged tools?
Maybe, one unit on tools that take more than one unit would only repair it slightly or halfway. Sure, this would be akin to current tool repair, but this would allows you to keep enchantments. Another idea is that even on one unit tools (shovels), it could take more than one unit to repair it. Considering you're keeping the enchantments, maybe it should take more than one unit to repair any tool.
Gold being made into currency would really help with trading and of course villages. It'd also add another much needed use to gold. I like the idea for diamond as well. Oh, and redstone blocks could be a little more than decorative. They could act as an alternate, but not controllable (thus not taking away the point of redstone repeaters) booster block. They'd be even more powerful extenders than repeaters, but as said before, you can't set the timing on them. It's just a straight current.
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
