Werewolves are a cool concept that many people love to talk about, especially video game fanatics.
My proposition is that if wolves already exist in Minecraft then why not add another variable to them whilst giving rotten flesh a tertiary effect?
At first I was thinking that you could design it so if you were to heal your wolf constantly with ONLY rotten flesh and nothing else, your wolf could have a chance to become tainted, or a 'werewolf'.
I have now devised 3 main concepts that may be considerable to add to the game, and if this topic gets enough hits I will make a 3D model concept of the werewolf. These concepts are SEPARATE ideas and are not intended to all be implemented, only a single one is.
1. Were-Companion;
Description
- If you feed your wolf only rotten flesh and nothing else 5 times it then the wolf develops a small percentage, such as 0.5%, that every time you feed it rotten flesh after the initial 5 times it has a possibility to turn into a werewolf.
Circumstances
- You would have to feed the wolf at night the time it turns into a werewolf or it will turn into a wolf briefly then howl and turn back to a regular wolf and run away.
- If you feed the wolf and it turns into a werewolf at night it will fight by your side with a bonus damage increase, but will return to being a regular wolf when the sun reaches 9 degrees above the horizon and it will run away.
- If you heal your wolf with anything other than rotten flesh the cycle is broken and you must heal it again with the initial 5 pieces of rotten flesh before it will develop the chance to turn.
Problems and Solutions
- Initial problem is that wolves are already quite powerful and it is quite easy to kill mobs. A possibility is that you would have to hit mobs before the werewolf gets to them in order to gain experience points, or that the werewolf wont follow you and will just kill anything nearby excluding you unless provoked.
- The percentages of getting this mob type are hard to achieve. This is because of the possible unfairness of the attack bonuses the mod type would receive.
1. Were-bite / Were-taint;
Description
- Utilizing the same feeding process as the Were-companion, you would need to feed your wolf an initial amount of rotten flesh before it is capable of becoming tainted. After feeding it enough rotten flesh, the wolf has a chance to become 'tainted' at which point it will get angry with you and bite you.
Circumstances
- If you are bitten during the day you will receive and poison de-buff that effects your health bar disallowing you to heal for a short time.
- If you are bit at night time you will turn into a werewolf, possibly the camera will change to third person, and you will be able to fight as the werewolf until the sun reaches 9 degrees above the horizon.
- The effect of feeding your wolf with anything other than rotten flesh, stated above in Were-companion:Circumstances, applies to this.
Problems and Solutions
- It is already easy to kill mobs with enchanted weapons and this is really ridiculous. I can agree with this, but maybe you would have a secondary health bar that is not heal-able and you can't access your inventory while you are a werewolf. You would simply have run, jump, and slash.
- Also it could be a factor that you drop some randomly chosen items if not all of them when you turn into a werewolf and you have to go pick them back up after. (Hulk effect) This is easily prevented by storing values in a chest before feeding your wolf.
1. Wolf Pack;
Description
- Utilizing the same feeding process as the Were-companion, you would need to feed your wolf an initial amount of rotten flesh, but this time when the wolf turns into a werewolf it would howl at the moon and a pack of 5-10 angry wolves appear (the ones with red eyes) and attack all mobs nearby. If a wolf is slain another appears in it's place, and after the werewolf howls it runs away.
Circumstances
- SAME AS Were-companion IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ.
- You would have to feed the wolf at night the time it turns into a werewolf or it will turn into a wolf briefly then howl and turn back to a regular wolf and run away.
- If you heal your wolf with anything other than rotten flesh the cycle is broken and you must heal it again with the initial 5 pieces of rotten flesh before it will develop the chance to turn.
Problems and Solutions
- That many wolves is quite overpowered. Well that is why it is so hard to achieve getting a werewolf and the main reason for the initial 5 feedings of rotten flesh. The initial feedings requires you to get the wolf damaged in a fight then proceed to feed it until the event occurs. Maybe even make wolves more of a rare spawn.
Let me know what you guys think or which one is the best idea, also remember that I will be drawing up a textured 3D model (Minecraft style) if this gets enough hits. Also I do not know if this has been suggested before and if so then let me know why it wasn't implemented before and maybe I can make some compromises and try to get this added to Minecraft.
Yeah, werewolves would be awesome. And I like the idea of the camera going into third person when you turn into a werewolf (happens in Skyrim too). It's like you're having an out-of-body experience and all you can do is watch as you kill others.

- Kronophonix
But I don't like any of them.
Coming soon: Nintendo World Resource Pack
Could you possibly give me any reasons why you don't like them? It would help me make the development of the idea.
