I've noticed something, when i have an animal farm and one of the baby animals escapes because i left the gate open too long. Usually I just kill it, but then i realized. In the real world, adult animals are defensive of their offspring. So why not have them do it in minecraft?
Normally passive mobs turn hostile when you attack their offspring. Not just one too, both parents.
Good idea, maybe also when animals mate they stick together for a while, until the baby has grown a little bit. And maybe some animals, like cows, stay in herds of 4 or 5, and they all stampede when you attack one of them.
i like the stampeding, but if I'm correct, not a lot of animals stay together in monogamy.
I see what you mean, but I just think that if some animals, like cows and sheep, stay in mating pairs it would make it harder to kill the babies. And maybe the babies could drop special items, like Calf Hide, which you could use for potion making.

And not all animals protect their offsprings. At least not both sexes.
Some animals may even kill their own offsprings if they are weak, or if they live from their parent/s for too long. Scorpions for example. Just for the record, but some animals like spiders maybe have similar behavior.
yea, Notch should defiantly make them more like animals.
If you're going to fix issues with animal mobs, how about things like chickens giving live birth and being able to milk both cow parents, one of whom is male?
Yeah, they sure do love crowding around them, sometimes to point the baby glitches through the fence and gets out. That's why I had to put a second fence around my pig farm. They kept getting out because of the parents and other members of their family kept crowding them until they glitched out of the fence. I guess at least pigs know what's in store, so they try to free and save their offspring from a terrible fate. I think chickens do it to, but they try to hop over the fence, while doing it.
Anyhow, how do you think they should do that? Would breeding chickens result in a second egg variant that almost always hatches, while the normal they randomly drop still has a chance, but it's rare? Jeb and them could do it with damage values, just like with wool and I think trees, leaves, and their saplings. As for cows, I really don't care about that, but it would be a nice touch.
