THE WHOLE ARM PART OF IT IS JUST TO GIVE THE FUNCTIONALITY A MANIFESTATION. IF YOU HAVE A BETTER IMPLEMENTATION, PLEASE DO TELL, DON'T JUST SAY IT'S WIERD.
Crafts one Arm Block
Where is bone and is redstone.
BUT WHAT DOES IT DO?
When placed, it will face the player and appear as an arm reaching out of a stone panel. Right clicking it will result in the opening of a gui with one slot.
I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT IT DOES.
When powered, it will use the item(s) in its slot as if it were a player (place blocks and use tools). Powering it once would result in a single click. A rapid pulse (anything faster than a one repeater delay) would cause it to click and hold.
WHY WOULD I WANT THIS?
This would greatly expand upon existing game mechanics. You could use this to replant and re-till soil and crops. It could also be used to automate the production of snow golems. You could use it together with pistons to make a rebuilding house out of something other than stone, or use it with a cobble generator to get a cobble farm that produces drops. You could fully automate animal breeding, as well as the shearing of sheep. Have a tree farm with axes to cut it down and a stack of saplings to replant. Make a giant automated fish farm. Give them a sword as a defense mechanism (thanks DaveLopo). And so much more.
If you think of more uses, post listing them, and I'll add it to the list.
If someone wants to make a proper banner, that would be nice. A mod would be even nicer.

Yes a block with the ability to place use tools, place blocks, and use items is one of the things that I have wanted in Minecraft for a long time. I dont think that it should be called an arm block though.

What would your suggestion be then? Currently in Minecraft the only thing capable of doing all of these things is the player's arm, so I think replicating it and mounting it on a wall makes sense.
This is crazy sick and weird. I don't think this fits with Minecraft's tone and direction.
Maybe the tone doesn't, but I think the functionality would be nice. As I said to someone earlier, I only picked the arm block because I couldn't think of any other way to give form to this suggestion.

What makes it seem stupid? If the functionality is good, doesn't that make it a more or less good idea?
How about putting a sword on the arm to be used as a defense mechanism?

Poorly disguised bump.
