My suggestion is that pumpkins that generate in the wild have stems next to them. It doesn't make sense that you have to have a stem to grow them but in the wild they come from nowhere. Also i think melons should generate randomly as well in florida we sometimes have wild melons growing called cistrens and the same in many other continents.
what do you guys think?
I think melons are good the way they are. They are the only item that can only be found in abandoned mineshafts.
exactly. why are pumpkin seeds found both in mine shafts AND on the surface? pumpkins are more delicate then melons and the people who made the shaft had to get them from somewhere.
I'd like to add something to the whole pumpkin idea.
Pumpkin pie.
As far as I've seen, the only uses I could find for pumpkin were pumpkin seeds and jack-o-lanterns. A pie recipe would seem to make pumpkins more useful in the game.
I don't think they should take the only unique item away from abandoned mineshafts. Until they add something else only obtainable in there, melons shouldn't be on the surface. I like the stem on the pumpkin idea though, it would make it look better.
I like the idea. I also would like to see the pumpkin pie idea used too. (Also maybe melons create rinds? You could craft 8 rinds around a bucket to get preserves or something.)
If it weren't taking the only unique thing from abandoned mineshafts away, it'd be a brilliant idea. Actually, I can care less about that. Melons should be on the surface, but should be much rarer than pumpkins. Also, I support the idea of pumpkins being crafted into pumpkin pies, which could be place-able like cakes. As someone else suggested, pumpkins should also be uncarved by default and get carved by either a carving tool (ugh, new item, no!), sword (kind of makes sense), or sheers (wait, what?) Pumpkins would be like paintings when carved. (a few different looks, picked randomly, except they can't be re-carved, unlike paintings)

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
