Just had this idea. What if there was a map edition tool to edit the map in a more "personal" way. I was thinking it could be done by making a 3d view from the sky of the map (like when your flying in creative mod), and you have different editing tools, like in Simcity. The tools have adjustable sizes, so if you want to create a mountain, you can select a bigger size for the tool to create mountains, and you keep using the tool in certain area until the mountain has the desired height. And this size option could go from 10 blocks to 10.000 blocks (taking in count that I had the idea because I was wondering how to make a real size minecraft's middle earth map).
So, what do you guys think?
Good idea! This would even work in single player; if you have a certain tool, you could fly and then create mountains and coverns with a single click - thought you would need a sufficient amount of resources to make the mountains, and would gain resources for making ditches and ravines.

Excuse me, but that was my comment you just read there, bub.
The only thing I wish I could have a direct effect on when I create a new world is the number, size, and location of NPC villages, and control how smart the villagers are or have control of what classes they become. The Village/rs system needs to be greatly enhanced, but the idea of tailoring a world would be pretty cool, though not very practical. When I think of Minecraft, I like to know that if I don't specify a seed, the world will be unlike anything I've played on previously.

Right, but you could have a tool to select where you want each biome, so then you have a desert just where you want it and it's a desert you've never seen before.

But that's just it. Knowing where everything is by seeing the map before hand, and in fact CREATING the map, ruins the survival aspect of the game and makes items like Maps and Compasses almost useless. It'd be a nice tool to have, for those who want it, I'm just saying it'd spoil the fun of exploring for me.

You have to think though, IF you had total control over the way the terrain looked, what would become of the magic of the world generator? Its always amazing when you come across a really amazing scene or structure, but as soon as you can say "Oh im just gonna make this look like this now" the feeling fades.

It isn't for the survival mode, it's for the creative mode, and it's precisely to make those amazing scenes where then you can build the world you want. The world generator has lots of flaws, there would be magic if it could create a mountain range so high and so long that you would actually have to create tunnels and catacombs to pass through it. It would be amazing to be able to create a city hidden between mountains as high as the eye can see. And what about making a hidden palace under the ground with columns which's end is out of range, deep into the darkness?.
And what about making towers in creative mode without it being such a fu**ing pain in the ass?
So, what do you guys think?
Also, does it really matter bit how many think it's possible or not? Those poll options do not help get an idea of the community's approval.

I don't know, who cares :biggrin.gif:

People with the sense to create decent polls. And Gary Busey. :biggrin.gif:
What survival aspect?
you'll not be obligated to use it...
