Imagine this you are out creeper hunting. Your sword just broke. You take out your bow. Fighting off mobs you head towards your base. All of the sudden you are out of arrows. You see chickens running around. If only there was a fast way to get the feathers. What I am suggesting is that a new item , the plucker, an item that can be crafted like so. [] []

it would have an effect simaler to shears. It would open up a lot of new possibilities for using feathers.
How about instead of physically plucking them, they molt, like every so often, but sometimes they have molt fest in which they drop a lot more feathers.

So instead of having an extra sword or enough arrows, you will be carrying around a plucker and flint? Also, having chickens be the only thing to drop feathers when you kill them makes arrows more rare and valuable. If you could just "shear" them like sheep, arrows would be too easy to get.
2) This is overpowered, you can get already tons of feathers by farming chickens with wheat.
3) Plucking chickens is cruel. It's like pulling out someone's hair with big strength.
This is very succinct. Thank you for posting it.
Look, the simplest solution is usually the best. This idea, and the pluthera of ideas like it all stem from the same issue; acquiring a large amount of feathers is difficult to do without massive farms and wheat to supply them. The simplest solution; make chickens drop more feathers upon death. It's simple, very easy to implement, mechanical sound (chickens are covered in feathers, more than half of which are large enough to be used as fletching), it's aesthetically pleasing (plucking a chicken in real life kills it, saying anything else perpetuates an unappealing farce that reminds us of this fact), and its a very easy concept to convey and get support from the community for. Hell, I'll help you write the post if it hasn't been made already.
Ask yourself this, would you add a meat cleaver to the game to extract beef and leather from cows without killing them? It's not done, it's not a simple solution, and it's morbid.

Good idea I might add to op.
