Okay, this is a rough idea and is not very realistic, so I think CONSTRUCTIVE criticism would be best.
Anyway, I was thinking about how hostile mobs can't spawn in daylight or torchlight, but skeletons and zombies will burn in sunlight, but not in torchlight. Also, spiders become neutral in sunlight but will stay aggressive in torchlight. We all know that. So what if we combined them, the power of sunlight and mobility of torchlight. The Sunlight torch would have the power of sunlight to the end of its effective range. Now I know this sounds really really really overpowered, but it would probably be crafted with some rare materials; let me know what those materials would be in your responses.
If you still don't follow what I'm saying, I'll try to make it more simple: The Sunlight torch would burn up zombies and skeletons, tame spiders, and stop hostile mob spawning all in one torch. This could be really useful for mining in big natural caves and ravines and encountering dungeons. If a mob is chasing you and you have nothing to defend yourself sufficiently with, run into the safety of your sunlight torch: problem solved. And if yo just happen to stumble upon a mob spawner and are afraid to die inside of the dungeon, slap a Sunlight torch in there and you have no problem. Again, I know this sounds really unfair and overpowered, but it would be really, really rare.
I think this would be a good idea, only i think it would be better if when u hold it it lit things up around you, maybe not as much as if you put it down but enough so you could see in caves and things.
I think a blaze rod as a stick, with a diamond on top for refracting and intensifying the light, with glowstone dust on top.

I play a lot on OniCraft, with several of my friends. We really like to build industrious semi-vanilla cities, make them reach a point of near self-sustenance, and then sacrifice the profited items to the Gods.
It sounds scary but it's kinda neat.
Oh, also, I make weird music.
