Ok, I know this is an old idea, But I think maybe I have figured out how it would work!
So, First you get a dye of your choice, (blue, green)
and some coal.
Then You COOK the coal with the dye.
Dye on bottom, coal on top.
You would get specked coal.
the normal coal. with little blue, green ect specks in it,
if you put Blue specked coal on a stick, Blue torch!
Green specked coal? green torch!
And if you cook sand with blue coal, blue window!!! Ect,
You can also cook food with specked coal, 1 specked coal=2 normal coal! (paint is flammable!)
But, there is a chance you will poison the food! (Paint is toxic!)\
Also, when this is suggested, I sometimes hear talk of, "this isn't necessary to game-play"
colored Wool
cobble?
Bookshelfs?
Glass panes?
Stone brick?
Mossy cobble??
We didn't "need' the above stuff, and we don't don't "Need" this..
but they all are for aesthetics
First and foremost, this is a game about architecture
Can you imagine a underwater palace, lit with Blues and green light?
Or a evil temple with Dark foreboding reds and greys!!
Colored light would add a Hell of a lot of architecture design, and You know it.
A temple with a holy shaft of white light, flowing in though a window.
A light house that gives off diffrent colors to alert different times of day!
This would help with building I think,
And yes, There is a mod for this.
But if there is a mod for this, that means jeb has half of the programming done for him!
So I think this should be added, but fell free to voice your option,
All the pictures are from the torches mod,
and yes, I do love the enter key! :tongue.gif:
I would Would think at least we could get torches with Blue and green sprites so they at Least LOOK colored, if we can't rewrite the light engine,
There are many requests like this, but the overall problem is that minecraft's lighting engine can not support coloured lights. Coloured lights = new lighting engine.

I know, mods can support this with little rewriteing,
And the lighting enigine still needs quite a bit of tweaking, Sometimes my torches give no light, I once saw dark glowstone in the nether,
Glass near blocks give Shadows when the shouldn't etc
I play a lot on OniCraft, with several of my friends. We really like to build industrious semi-vanilla cities, make them reach a point of near self-sustenance, and then sacrifice the profited items to the Gods.
For torches: Unless you are ONLY changing their general color, the light they give will still be red. If you intended for other lights... entire rework of the light system.
Or to make the crafting recipe or something more simpler...
torch+dye=colorful torches

Message me yours if you want to trade in Animal Crossing: New Leaf or just need some friends to play with. I can also do Pokemon trades in Pokemon X(or Y), but I don't have any good stuff, and the only good stuff I have is not for trade so...send me requests anyway.

Otherwise, good (but oversuggested) idea.
He did mention that there is a mod with this implemented, and that the picture he used is from the mod. Fromt he picture I see blue light coming from the blue torches and red light coming from the red torches. Which means the re-work of the lighting system is more than enough to add to Vanilla, with maybe a few changes depending on other things they might add to it themselves.

torch+dye=colorful torches
^This. The recipe should be simpler.
Also: if we have colored torches, then there should also be colored glowstone. That way if you want the light to come from the floor instead of wall or ceiling, you can have it flushed better against the blocks.
With the implementation of Redstone Lamp coming, colored redstone lamps would be possible too then.
I really like the colored glass thing too.

It sounds scary but it's kinda neat.
Oh, also, I make weird music.
