Jeb has made a huge, revolutionary change for the better in the latest snapshot. He tripled the space to build above ground, allowing for the possibility for absolutely epic constructs or mountain ranges. If anyone has seen that massive starship enterprise build, you could have two of those on top of each other with room to spare for, say, the Eiffel tower. It is absolutely insane.
With this in mind, however, the underground seems pathetic and squashed, like a thin layer of stone on the bottom of a massive expanse of open air. While this is amazing for building, the mining in Minecraft could massively benefit from extra space as well; but of course we don't want to take away any of that new found glorious building space. So, my proposal is we have a world option to change the distribution of this space. Specifically, three. One where there is 64 blocks below sea level and 192 blocks above, one where there is 128 blocks both above and below sea level, and one where there are 192 blocks below sea level and 64 above.
"Why would you want this?", you might ask.
Well, if you remember those statistics from earlier about the building space, those could also apply to the underground. In a world where we have the same building space above ground as before the brilliant new patch, we could have something as large and detailed as that was created by players spawn as a generated structure underground, with a good amount of room to spare. Caves like those in this thread could be regular occurrences. There would be so much room for new mobs, new ores, and new structures it would be amazing. Of course, you could go half and half and sacrifice some of the mining for more building and better mountains. The fact is the choice would be up to you, but the world would be open to so many more possibilities and so much more content if this option was added that it could revolutionize the game further than Jeb has already done.

Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.
Personally I would rather have the original minecraft world hight. My cheap laptop at the fastest setting runs the newer minecraft worlds at about 10fps

I will confess, while I'm not against the increase in map height and thank Jeb greatly for doing it, I do kinda wish that the extra height had gone underground rather than above ground yeah. One of my favorite MC elements is exploring deep, dark caves, so the longer and larger they are the better. And if caverns like the one in the link posted above could be added too, that would just be utterly spectacular.
I'd very much like an option to adjust the height like this, yeah. Giving us the option in this manner allows people to choose what works for them, rather than having it forced upon them, so it's beneficial for all. It allows us to play this sandbox game even more how we ourselves want to, instead of just having to go with the options of others.
I'd be greatly in favour of this.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels this way. Thanks for the support.

it should come with an option so the game does not load the under ground while you're on the surface so it would be using
1/2 CPU

Seems like an odd post to bump the thread, as it is not really relevant to what I posted, but why not. I thought Jeb had already made changes to let the system run more smoothly?

Sounds like that is a problem on your end.
