I find that the current repair system is silly, it seems more like combining things with interest then repairing them. Because of this I had an idea that wouldn't replace the current repair system but add a new one. there would be a new block that you made called "Repairing Table", and it would work similer to the enchantment table in the fact that you give it an item and it does something to it in exchange for levels. the way this would work is, each kind of tool and armor would have its own repair level and this level is the number of levels it costs to fully repair that kind of item regaurdless of how used it is (so you won't get charged extra for repairing a particularly used tool but you won't get a discount on an almost unused tool), for example:
These levels arejust an idea and I am very open to new ideas on them. currently I am looking for a crafting recipe fro the table so if anyone has any ideas please speak up. If anyone would like to make a mod that would be teriffic and would give mojang some coding to base off of.
I apologize in advance for any spelling/grammer errors, I dont mind being told I messed up but I may or may not fix it.:tongue.gif:
Maybe the table should be more like a blacksmith table or something. And you have to put coal or lava or fire charges in for it to work.
Here's another idea: what if you can repair it different amounts. I.e. leather boots with one quarter can be repaired to a half bar for 2 levels. That way you can save a couple levels to enchant the item.
That brings up the question of sustained enchantments. Maybe you pay 2 extra levels and keep your enchantment? Or maybe it changes with what level enchantment it is?

Anyway, it's a great idea. Modders? Jeb? Notch?
I did consider this but did not feel that it would fit in with the vanilla game. As for the forge that is a good idea but the concept here is that you are spending skill on fixing the tool, so using coal and lava wouldn't fit the concept.
How about using the materials needed to make a new tool used to repair the current one (like using 1 damaged and enchanted stone pick, 3 cobble, and 2 sticks to fully repair the tool and keep the enchantment. Also, 1 diamond pick, 3 cobble, and 2 sticks would keep the diamond pick enchanted, but only repaired 132 durability and kept all enchantments).

Please click the dragons, they need to grow. Also, my fully grown dragons can be found in my bio.

Good question, I did this because I wanted this to be completely different from the current system and that would be similar because it would use materials also, I'm not sure if I made this clear in my post but the two mane reasons for this are, retaining enchantments and making it so that you do not need to use none renewable or difficult to renew resources to repair. I used experience because although some people may have trouble getting a lot of it it is still easily renewable.

With my idea, you could repair any tool with the materials for any tool of the same type (not tier).
I voted I don't care since experience shouldn't repair tools.
Wooden tools: 5 levels
Leather armour: 5 levels
Stone tools: 10 levels
Iron tools/armour: 20 levels
Gold tools/armour: 25 levels
Diamond tools/armour: 40 levels
