Nightime is the time for fighting and daytime is the time for crafting, however, due to the lack of the "human element" in the game, with the exception of the dorky NPC villagers, I would like to see more humans mobs in the game.
My idea is of three new daytime based human mobs
(1) band of nomadic thieves-spawn between 3-5. Hostile, wearing leather armor and brandishing wooden swords. Upon kill they would drop 0 to 1 random item-being thieves they would drop either iron ingot, gold nugget, food item (apple, bread, cooked animal), and a very rare chance of a diamond.
(2) Knights - more rare than thieves - spawn between 1-3 at a time-can be either friendly or hostile (random event). Wearing iron armor and brandishing iron swords-harder to kill and inflict more damage than thieves-would drop 0-1 random item--iron sword, iron armor of one type.
(3) Ranger- much more rare than Knights--spawn only 1 at a time-Hostile only. Wearing iron armor and attack with bow/arrow-Rangers are riding horseback (adds horses to the game as well). Rangers are more dangerous and deadlier than skeletons as they are faster on horseback, also, they try to keep a distance when attacking, and attack rate with bows are much faster than a skeletons and more accurate. Upon kill they would drop similar item to that of Knight, with the exception of dropping a bow instead of sword (obviously up for discussion). Also, if Ranger is killed than horse is left for player to take and use-however, if horse is killed before Ranger it leaves the Ranger to attack from foot.
All these mobs despawn at night (as if hiding from the monsters)so they cannot be found at night
All these mobs would be VERY rare and my idea is to have them only spawn far distances from your original spawn point. So, the player would run across these mobs only when adventuring out into the world.
The idea is to create more of a midievil feel to the world with more human characters as opposed to the Adam/Eve feel of the world is it stands now.
Obviously there are some Ranger's Apprentice fans around here. Would be great, especially if they didn't spawn anywhere NEAR spawn point, because running into a Ranger with only a wood axe does not seem appealing.
Did it ever occur to you, that there might be a reason you are the only human in the world of minecraft (sp)?
Maybe the rest of them were killed off in some biblicial epic scheme and now whats left humanity returns at night in the form of zombies and skeletons. Its a pretty basic 'I am Legend' theme. Somehow the creepers are in league with the endermen and their boss the enderdragon in some kind of diabolical twisted plan that we don't know about where they get to take over the world if the last of the human's are killed.
My point is, there is a reason the player character is human and the villagers are... whatever those things are, and those whatever things are the natural inhabitants, maybe our player character was transported to another world mysterious and that is why he/she starts off with absolutly nothing.

Sorry Amedeus-there was a little glitch in my response attempt-
I understand of this aspect in the game-however, I was just trying to impose a little more excitement in the daytime "adventureing" aspect of the game-this game is quite boring when adventuring out into the landscape with no action going on.
Since there are villagers-which kind of negates your argument of no other human type element-these "thieves", "knights", and "rangers" could be the testificates that are already in the game
I'm kind of annoyed the Ranger is hostile. Rangers in a majority of titles (games, books, and movies) are more of a robin hood style. they are warriors of the people who use skill and dexterity rather then strength and power like a knight.

Why? Or are you just a hater?
