I've been trying to find the/ a thread about improving Minecraft's difficulty, but I can't find it in search or anything, so I suppose I'll make a new thread about my little subject matter. (At least, I found several good threads to post in, as of late. :tongue.gif: )
Basically, I recently tweeted Jeb about how spiders need to evolve. I'm not sure if he'll see it or even reply to it, but here's what I'm thinking. If Zombies and Skeletons (and Creepers?) evolved a bit as of late, what about spiders? With the addition of new mobs with slightly unique behavior (Endermen, Silverfish, Blazes) and adjustments to a few of the existing mobs (as said before, zombies, skeletons, and I'm guessing, creepers), I think spiders are in need of a tune-up. The idea is spiders are no longer just your and my enemies, they're competition. Yes, you heard correctly. Competition. Spiders should have a larger menu of things to choose from/ kill. The idea is that they'll kill other things and you won't get nothing if they do, like with Mo Creatures hunter animals/ mobs.
Right now, I'm thinking pigs, chickens, silverfish, the other spider variant(s), and maybe squid should be on there, along with perhaps Testificates, zombies, maybe endermen, and maybe even cows. The problem with cows and Endermen is more of a "I don't want them attacking everything, especially not things bigger than them, made up of bones, or things that explode." Also, Zombies might also fall on the list of questionable targets. I just decided to throw it in there. Oh, and spiders aren't going to just kill everything on the sight. That's not the idea. The idea is that they'll get hungry sometimes (especially at night or in caves) and go kill stuff. (probably a little less often than Mo Creatures' hunter creatures seem to do.) Man, do they seem ridiculous sometimes, especially the Big Cats and Crocs. I mean, you just killed "ate" two pigs and you're really going to kill this cow?
Finally, the whole idea of spiders attacking their own (namely their cousin(s) the Cave and possibly Jungle Spider) is not that there should be infighting between them, but more because I'm pretty sure other variants of real world spiders, kill other spiders, even the males of their own kind, sometimes. Why should minecraft be an exception? The idea in general is in reference of Eight-legged freaks. Did the spiders automatically move on to humans there (once they got bigger)? Nope. They killed llamas (or maybe that was ostrichs, haven't seen it in awhile), cats, dogs, and probably livestock first. Why should Minecraft's spiders limit themselves to you, the player or even the player + Testificates? The answer is they shouldn't.
P.S. I just noticed I forgot , but yeah, them to.
The other idea is maybe wolves or at least ocelots destroy drops, though part of me wants to see a partial drop destruction, unlike Mo Creatures, where they either destroy drops or they don't. Either way, I think it would add a lot of depth and potential difficulty if we had competition for our prey.
One final thought, if this ever gets implemented, whether in 1.3 or some later update, it looks like animal farmers would have to safe guard their farms better. Another reason why this would be a brilliant idea. Ideas? Suggestions? Opinions? Flames? (though I'd rather have those in this thread) (I'm still putting up a shield though)
Edit: I screwed up the name. My original name had "Why" in it and I forgot to change it when I posted.
"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.
I openly support except for one thing the massive spiders could make a nes in a hill side and would "place" a nest block "spawner" that would spawn a tiny version until it kills a cow or something?

That sounds more like your own idea than having very much to do with this thread.
Anyway, it's a great idea! I think spiders did get an AI upgrade, but this sound ausome! I think natural breeding and/or animal spawning should come back, or else spiders might clear out an area in just a few days.

You better watch closely, or these words just might turn into a juggling squirrel...
