Ok,so we've all heard about chairs, and while they may seem cool, they would have pretty much no use at all. Rest your tired, virtual butt. So here is my idea.
People sitting in chairs will be able to interact with each other. This means private conversation, and trading! Here's how it works.
There are two types of seats, chairs and stools. Each take up only one block. You may put something on top of them, but that will prevent a player from sitting on them. On stools, (no poop jokes please) the player will be able to rotate 360 degrees, and join a conversation with any players within two blocks of the stool.
On chairs, designated by their back supports, limit the players view to 270 degrees, allowing them to turn to their right and left, but not behind them. However, players in chairs can talk to anyone within a four block radius. They will not be able to contact a player sitting in a stool, if the chair player is out of the stool player's radius.
Right now, I'm not so sure about how to craft them.
Anyway, now for the table. The table will be similar to the pressure plate on a fence post, but it won't go clickety click whenever you walk by it, and it looks nicer. They will take up 1 block, and not be active if any block other than cake rests on too of it. Any player sitting on a chair or stool adjacent to a table will be able to engage in a group conversation with other players sitting at the table, regardless of the chair or stools chat radius. Trading sessions will remain private, but you can trade with any player at the table.
Tables can be combined with other tables to make a maximum of 3 x 3 big tables, which will allow players to talk across the entire length.
I'm still developing the idea, so feel free to chime in, it'd be appreciated.
Agree, up to the trading & doubtful about the chat radius.
Why? IRL you do not have to sit with another person in order to hand in a item. and about the chat radius is a bit weird about it maybe you care to explain it with a better deail?
I understood it like this, when NOT sit, you chat normally, in a "global" chat, and when you sit in a table with mates or something, you enter in a "private chat" or channel or watevu, separate from the global chat. Am I right? (I know that there are plugins for chat channels, but I like the idea of command-less "face to face" conversations.
It would be neat to have a private conversation just whoever is sitting a couple blocks in front of you. There is no real reason for a stool if you already have a chair for the same purpose (or the other way around)
And a non-clicky table does sound cool too
Plus, sitting down could look the same as it does in a boat
@rolandostar yes, I will add more detail, I was crunched for time when I wrote this. (I'm not smart so I don't write it out on a word doc first :tongue.gif:) Yes, you are correct about the private conversations, I'll start editing the OP when I get time.
@Metroid17, I agree with the sitting. If only we had knees, though.
Perhaps opening you inventory when you are sitting down at a table with another player can open up a trade GUI. It's like using a chest but it is split into two halves and you can only place items into one half, and the player you are trading with can place things in the other half. In the middle is "Trade" button. When both players trading click it, all items in your section are swapped with the items in the other player's section, allowing you to trade, without running the risk of the other player running off with your items before giving you what you want.
Perhaps an image of the items you place in the trade GUI can appear on the table in front of you as well. to show the other player what you are offering if he hasn't opened the GUI yet.
@Omnom18, honestly, I wasn't to big on the chat radius either, but I had to implement it to make a use for chairs/stools. Stools would make chairs superfluous, as you can turn 360 degrees in them, so I had to make something to give chairs an advantage of sorts.
Wow maybe they could attract npc villagers and when you have 2 npc villagers in your house a blood moon comes and then goblins can be added and there can be a hoblin army (terraria reference,i dont support)
