Bamboo raft
Pros: Faster, Easier to turn,
Cons: More expensive to make, can break easily
Wooden Boat
Pros: Cheap, more durable
Cons: Hard to turn, not very fast
It's a definite possibility, I'm not thrilled with the uniqueness magnitude. It does give me an idea for an extension of the scaffolding block; a raft block that can be placed like Lilly pads and allow you to build from them. You could make floating platforms in the middle of an ocean (without making a dirt column from the bottom of the ocean) then build a floating fortress. It would also allow you to make bamboo pole flooring and docks, but give it a use other than aesthetics. A few people have suggested to make bamboo roofing for beach cabanas, but I didn't want to make a strait up "Solid Bamboo Block" that would just be re-textured wood. Thanks for the inspiration, I'll have to consider both ideas before I add it to the OP, but there is some definite potential.
Added new crafting recipe to the OP; Fish Shoot Stew. I haven't gotten around to making a crafting image so I'll add it later. Included in the description is a possible new way to craft both Fish Shoot Stew and Mushroom Stew that uses cauldrons.
Still working on rafts and other ideas. More on that later.
there are already too many types of wood but i would definitely replace birch with bamboo
I'll have to disagree with you on two counts. First, Bamboo is not equivalent to wood, they aren't used in the same recipes. Second, I think we could do with maybe one or two more trees in the game (see this thread here). Something like Western Red Cedar or Redwood or a tropical tree would be nice.
Added a "Totally Legit" celebrity endorsement from **** Van **** to the OP. I was so surprised, I never thought of him as a Bamboo supporter, but he made this entire dance number to sing Bamboo's praises, so how could anyone misinterpret that?
I definitely like the idea and see its versatility. That being said, the main problem I have with it is the sheer amount of recipes and other items that come along with it. If bamboo were to implemented into Minecraft, there is no way that all of those recipes would be included.
While Minecraft does add items readily and easily, it does not add items that are huge game-changers. Items like the smoke bomb and scaffolding don't seem like they would be easily added only because they already have counterparts in the game: TNT, ladders, and vines. There is no need to add more items on if they perform the same function, especially given the complexity of their recipes. Something like a tiki torch, where one places a torch on top of bamboo, may be more feasible as the recipe is far simpler and could allow for taller torches with higher light levels.
I love the idea of tatami mats. I have always wanted rugs for Minecraft; what better way to implement that than by using bamboo?
I like the idea of having bamboo, especially since Minecraft is a building game. I believe that if you are to implement it, it should be a recolored version of sugarcane to add familiarity, which would transition it into Minecraft more easily.
One thing I disagree with is how your adding all of these "Japanese" Concepts into the game. I'm not hating on Japanese people, i'm Asian myself, but Minecraft IMO is more universal, not specific to a certain type of race/culture.
Other than that, your post was extremely well set up, and I support your idea.

Oh, and the fireworks and such are from feudal China, not Japan.

While Minecraft does add items readily and easily, it does not add items that are huge game-changers. Your absolutely correct. However, the main purpose I had for including so many diverse and game changing (but not game breaking, I hope you'll agree) recipes was to provide solid proof/examples that bamboo can have valid, unique utility uses in addition to be aesthetically pleasing. My forum research indicated that the #1 reason any bamboo topic was shot down was it had only aesthetic applications and people claim sugar cane does the exact same thing, so I wanted to make my topic resilient to those assaults (it seems to be working for the most part, well maybe not for the sugar cane similarities) I'm very certain if bamboo were implemented, it would only have one or two of the crafting recipes I suggested, and I'm ok with that. More recipes can be added later, or kept as is. I'd just be over the moon to have my bamboo grove outside my mountain bunker; that alone is enough for me. If I could choose one to be implemented over the rest, it would be the first one I implemented; bamboo scaffolding (Disclaimer; though I thought of it independently, someone has made a thread specifically for Bamboo Scaffolding. However, I asked permission from the OP and made modification to the original concept to fit my view). -snip-
There is no need to add more items on if they perform the same function, especially given the complexity of their recipes. Again, preaching to the choir; if it doesn't add anything new or unique, it's very likely it's not going to be interesting or fun. I've refuted suggestions that want to make tools out of bamboo for this very core reason. But I personally feel that all the recipes I have included so far fit that bill. I can see where you could make a valid argument that the smoke bomb isn't incredibly unique, but I must speak out for Bamboo Scaffolding. It's not just a block you can climb, we have vines and ladders for that already. It's a block that is very breakable with your bare hands or without tools. You need to make an arch way? Throw up 8 Bamboo Scaffolding blocks and take them back down in the same amount of time or less. Want to make a quick 1x1 tower to survey the land (if your server permits it)? Now you'll be less likely to find 1x1 towers scattering the landscape because you can break them down so quickly. Back when you needed a dirt ceiling to place upside down slabs for a room floor, this would have been the perfect block to use. It's also very realistic too; this picture from the Bamboo Wikipedia articleshows a bamboo scaffolding being used to build modern structures.Update: You liked the idea here, I don't see the difference between his and mine. -snip-
I like the idea of having bamboo, especially since Minecraft is a building game. I believe that if you are to implement it, it should be a recolored version of sugarcane to add familiarity, which would transition it into Minecraft more easily. I don't believe this would help the transition. As stated before, the main impression I got from previous threads was that "Sugar Cane = Bamboo, STFU". If it's going to be implemented it must be distanced as far away from sugar cane as feasibly possible. Not requiring water to grow, using Bamboo shoots to plant it, growing in different, specific biomes, and all the crafting recipes were added to allow bamboo to turn it's head and deny any similarities to sugar cane. I want Bamboo to be called "Bamboo", and the only way to do that is to put a little salt in the sugar.
Sugar Cane used to be called Bamboo. Not entirely true. According to the Sugar Cane Wikia article, it was only informally called bamboo or papyrus back when it was "reeds". I draw this distinction because it would imply that reeds or sugar cane was at one point of the game development process were going to become more like bamboo.
One thing I disagree with is how your adding all of these "Japanese" Concepts into the game. I'm not hating on Japanese people, i'm Asian myself, but Minecraft IMO is more universal, not specific to a certain type of race/culture. I do imagine most of the uses of Bamboo as used in Asian culture because that's where I've seen it the most in games, movies, TV, media, etc.. What would you propose could deviate from this standard? Perhaps the rafts idea inspired by Fredfredbug4here or how I mutilated that idea here. Wold that suffice?I'm not going to take out the other ideas solely because of this mind you but some variation would help strengthen my argument.
Couldn't something like this happen with sugar canes? No, as I stated above, and will briefly elaborate, I've determined that sugar cane is an enemy to getting Bamboo implemented and therefore must not be associated to sugar cane by changing growing mechanics, crafting abilities, and biome location. You can't make sugar from Bamboo (to my knowledge), so outright replacing sugar cane (as it did to reeds before it) with Bamboo would leave us sugarless and would kill several crafting recipes in the process. You also really can't make paper out of Bamboo, you can but it's not really the same in real life.
I'll probably reorganize the OP so that the crafting recipes are numbered in order of feasibility and strength.
Full support, would you (ChadGarion25) be offended if someone used these ideas in a mod though? (obviously implying me and implying that you would get credit for the ideas)

Go for it. Use all or parts of the suggestion as you see fit. I wouldn't use my textures though, they aren't exactly stunning. If you create some unique textures for the Bamboo, I would appreciate if I could use them in the post. Besides the crafting recipes, I would love to have some game images to illustrate the aesthetics. My ultimate goal is to take the splash art in the OP, slash it diagonally, and have the top half the Bing picture, dissolve in the middle, and the bottom half be a Minecraft equivalent with wood stairs and grass.
Nice you can likely expect it as part of a larger mod once 1.3 comes out (i will use the mods i am planning to try and learn java and bring awesome stuff to minecraft)

Another use for bamboo!
They said they might add pandas to minecraft.
Why not make them tamable with Bamboo?
"Dinnerbone commented on Reddit that he would like to add pandas to Minecraft, and that he is testing them."
That's what the wiki said.
Muahahaha.
