It would be pretty cool to add backpacks to minecraft. They'd be sooo useful, being able to carry lots of items around like that.
Here's the Idea:
In minecraft SMP, you would be able to craft a carryable chest that was technically a second inventory, such as a backpack/rucksack or whatever you want to call it.
Damage & Movement Factors:
It would slow down sprinting slightly and make you slightly hungrier, so there isn't an infinite advantage to having one, but you could carry the equivalent of one chest in it. Since the backpack is worn as a chestplate, it would give a slight amount of protection.
How to Open the Backpack:
Choices:
-Open it via a button in your inventory
-Press "B" to open
-Double tap "I"
Crafting Idea:
= leather
If you have any better ideas about this, please reply.
There is a backpack mod out there if you use those. It is pretty handy to have.
I prefer not to have mods on. I have to deal with them not being there sometimes when I actually need them, so a Backpack in SMP would be extremely useful for legitimate players.

The whole point of the Suggestions Forum is to suggest features we want to have "intrinsic" to the game.
I have a hard time seeing this item implemented well: How do we open it? Does it simply expand your inventory? Is there a wear and damage factor to it since it's wearable?
I wholeheartedly agree that we need more uses for leather and that a backpack is a strong candidate, but I think you need flesh out the design technicalities a bit more. Maybe even take it a different direction.

We all know minecraft is sort of unrealistic. So a backpack thus could be opened from your inventory, OR you could press a button (such as ""B") or double tap "I" to open the backpack. It could also have an animation like a chest has (Not EXACTLY like a chest has, just it would have an animation) When you double tap "I" or press "B".
And I did say there was a wear and damage factor implemented into carrying a backpack in the original thread. It would slightly make your sprint slow down, and make you a bit hungrier. It would also give you a small bit of protection.

My idea was when you opened your inventory, there's a button in the GUI that you press to open the backpack. (Easier to reach :smile.gif: )
