When you kill a Villager, sometimes a ghost will spawn. Of course, it will need to get revenge on you for killing it. To do that, it would possess any other passive mob and cause them to attack you. When you kill that, the ghost just pops back out and possesses something else (if it possesses a villager and you kill it, it might come out with that villager's ghost too). The only way you could kill it would be to suck it up with some kind of ghost vacuum, which could be crafted by creating a 2x2 square in the bottom left corner out of iron, with gold across the top row. When you use this, you could get a ghost item, which can be crafted into ectoplasm, which can be crafted on swords, making them able to damage ghosts (when ghost is killed, not captured, it just drops ectoplasm), they could be used to make sticky pistons as well, and you can put them on minecarts to get sticky minecarts, which stick to other minecarts, allowing you to make trains. Or, when the ghost is surrounded by glass blocks in a crafting bench, you get a captured ghost, which, when placed, will provide a strong light source, a strong output of redstone current, and can be set to repel a specific mob within a radius. This provides a reason to not kill villagers, especially in the beginning. Also, when zombies attack villagers, they should turn them into zombies too. This way, you'd want to protect them.
I play a lot on OniCraft, with several of my friends. We really like to build industrious semi-vanilla cities, make them reach a point of near self-sustenance, and then sacrifice the profited items to the Gods.

It sounds scary but it's kinda neat.
Oh, also, I make weird music.
