NOTE: I apologize if this was suggested before, I ran a search on 'name colors' and checked through the "previously suggested" topics and didn't find any that related to this.
On most custom servers around today is the feature of name colors. On these servers users are typically colored by rank (e.g. guest, member, OP, Admin, etc.). Why not include this feature in the official server? Here's a good reason why it should be included: currently, there is no way to tell whether a user is OP or not unless they place or delete solid blocks (and even then, that can be faked with client hacks). Of course, some vanilla-dependent scripts like cMss would support a "!listops" command, but even that could be invalid. Because of this, official servers are insecure to fake identities. For example, I could waltz into any official server nowadays and claim admin and I'd probably convince at least one noob. Not only would this be nice for security, but also for authority. For example, if bobbyjoe12 said he was op and told me not to do something, I might not believe him (especially if the server title is unrelated to his name), whereas if he had a name color indicating he was OP I would know that what he says is to be followed on that server.

This would especially work well with DrEvilNL's idea for multiple ranks.
