As it stands now, gold tools are pretty much worthless. They only have 33 uses (because gold is a soft metal, I understand this) but they are faster than diamond and have the highest enchantability.
But gold can't even mine itself.
I suggest that gold tools should be on par with iron, not in terms of durability, but in how how they perform. Specifically, pickaxes and swords. If a gold pick could mine the same materials as iron, and a gold sword did the same damage as an iron one, then they could be put to practical use. An enchanted gold tool would be fragile, but valuable. And there would finally be a ligitimate reason to craft them.
