So far, the only flying mobs in Minecraft are hostile. Chickens don't fly it just falls down slowly.
All of the suggested mobs below can fly and are passive.
Seagulls
Spawns on an island surrounded by an ocean with sand on the island. Sometime's they're seen in groups when hunting. Can land on the ground or ocean and only wanders around water to look for food. It will fly away from you when it sees that you're 7 blocks close to it or closer. A seagull within 7 blocks of startled seagull will fly away too. Arrows that land next to the seagull will make it fly away. Seagulls will then land far away from you.
It has 1 heart.
Drops feathers and fish, only if it's flying away with a fish. It can't drop two fish it only drops one.
Firefly
Spawns anywhere in the forest at night. It has the ability to glow. It's a little bit less bright than glowstone. They shouldn't be too common or the forest will have too much lighting at night time. It can land on not only the floor but the wall too.
It has 1 heart.
Drops 1 or no glowstone dust.
Cloud
Living clouds spawn at the highest altitude and will only fly in the highest altitude. They look like white flying wool blocks.
2 hearts.
Drops 12 feathers. Maybe few snowballs when it's snowing. I guess it drops redstone dust in a lightning storm? I don't know what it should drop when it rains.
Sounds pretty cool, but I think fireflies would be better if they only had the brightness of a redstone torch only yellow. Glowstone is the brightest artifical light source in the game. and a little bit less than that is still alot of light. Toned down to redstone brightness would make them still visibly glow without being like big flying strobe lights. they should spawn in forests, jungles and swamps. That would be awesome. I'm not sure about what they should drop though. Glowstone dust is pretty much a reward for going to the Nether. perhaps an alechemical ingredient or perhaps you can catch them in bottles to provide a dim (redstone brightness) waterproof light source for 1-2 days. Not really that great, but it would be good if you got stuck outside without torches and wanted enough to illuminate your little dirt hole that you're waiting out the night in. Plus they could be a nice decorative light source for eerie haunted houses or you could place them out in random places like will-o-wisps. Actually will-o-wisps would be a great hostile mob for swamps. Yeah, we definitely need more mobs on land, sea and air.
