Well, i was thinking, wouldnt it be nice if we had a actual block that could be used to destroy items without using lava (or nether fire or cactus) all of which can be harmful to the player, and the lava and fire can be dangerous to our wooden creations/houses. All im proposing is a block which we can simply place our items that we dont want inside with a right click, and poof, incinerated. Im assuming it wouldnt be toooo hard to create....what do you guys think?
The incinerator itself is a block, think of it like a furnace, you right click, place the items inside, little or no risk to the player at all, doesnt set wood on fire if it is nearby.

Well, lava or a cactus isn't dangerous unless the player is dumb, and if you don't want to burn anything you can encase it in stone... or use a cactus.
I still see no point. Think Jeb and Jon should focus on more important features.
I have a graveyard for unusefulness items in my MC backyard, its just chests in the ground filled with worthless stuff. Here lies Old wooden tools, RIP.
It doesn't take long to make a chest and bury it. That way you don't stupidly Throw out your diamonds instead of that old dirt. I can see people shift clicking and then they *poof* OHNOESILOSTMYDIAMONDSANDINMYRAGEBROKETHESPACEBAR!!!!!!

All players at one point didnt know what would the "safety zone" for lava or fire was. The cobble or stone could mess with asthetics too if your tryin to make a house out of wood. This could be a lil feature not toooooo big. Basically what im saying is i want a trash can :tongue.gif:
Lol, I was just about to suggest this. It needs a crafting recipe, though. Maybe something like this?
[furnace]
[redstone]
[netherrack or blaze powder]
It could have a GUI like the chest, but with a pair of buttons. One burns everything in there and the other drops it. When you click the burn button it kicks you out of the GUI and displays a fire particle effect for half a second.

If anyone wants to port/remake this, feel free to do that! Or don't. It's up to you, really.

Well, the incinerator doesn't need to be visible in the house, so aesthetics aren't an issue.
If a player slips on a cactus, they won't die.
If you want an aesthetic trash can, use a cauldron.
I was thinking about building a "safe" one by putting a dispenser facing an enclosed block of lava, and putting a redstone clock under it. That way you could just put your items in the despiser, then they'd be ejected one by one into the lava.
I don't understand why you would need a new thing to craft for something you can already build with the resources already in the game. All you have to do is put some lava under a sticky piston and hook it up to a button.
This is the setup I use (though I tend to replace the cactus with lava if the building isn't flammable or if I decide to use double wood slabs instead of wood blocks). The half slab there will prevent anyone from falling in, but will still allow items to be tossed in.

I see no point. Could you expand more?

I just make chests for unwanted items.
