How about if you had a goal from the beginning of the game, single player or server, to build a city with everything from trains and planes to electricity and factories. In the current game, you have to mine everything and build at a basic level, but my idea to make it better would be that you could build factories to produce certain items, and you would have to experiment to invent better technology to better your society. This could work with the NPCs, as you build more, they show up and help you. You could assign each one a specific job, house, and keeping them happy could be a goal. like, you are their leader and they will follow you to the ends of the earth, as long as you give them rest and access to food. The eventual goal is to build a working society of your NPCs. Maybe add in vehicles, and if you get enough resources and get far enough in development of your society you could maybe build a rocket and fly to the moon you see in the sky every night. This could lead to having servers with a couple friends that leads to space races and such. This is my first suggestion so let me know what you guys think.
Sim city + evolution + awesomeness in minecraft!!!!! oh wait, minecraft is already AWESOME!!!! good idea. Like games like age of empires where you have to like "evolve" to get better stuff.
The "Technic Pack" cobbled together mods without informing their creators or requesting permission.
Industrial Craft and Redpower mods are simular to what your suggesting. They provide a means for automated production that in turn allows for more futuristic devices or inventions to be created.
But I think in order for this idea to be fully realized, we would have to first broaden the game as it is, adding more minerals such as copper and tin (as Industrial Craft does).
So good idea, but I think we should focus our support for laying the ground work that will allow for content as broad and bold as you are suggesting.
I don't really like the idea. It would twist minecraft too much, I like Minecraft how it is now, and i feel that factories and evolution would kinda ruin it.

I'm trying to find the link to it...never even heard of it.
Technic pack doesnt have a mod that allows "evolution" through study or items or whatever. Industrial craft is 1.1?
