In creative mode, especially if you are in superflat or some other plain landscape, you should be able to control the biomes and temp/humidity settings.
In particular, you should have control over:
What sections are freezing or not
Where it snows vs rains vs very low chance of rain.
(Remember: The defining feature of deserts is low rainfall, not high tempurature. Frozen deserts are fairly common actually.)
It should be possible to define geographic regions first, and then ask for a landscape to be built to those regions.
It should be possible take an existing landscape, and change the temp/humidity levels; this would have such changes as controlling where ice is, or where sand is, or where grass will not grow if the humidity is low.
It should be possible to take an existing landscape, and change the biome. Changing to beach, for example, would flatten landscape down and change grassy areas into sandy or gravel. Changing to river would be a way to put in a large waterway. Existing biome edge code blending would merge your changes into the landscape.
It should be possible to generate the landscape chunks. If it turns out to be (as I suspect) a requirement for this that you need to pre-generate the lands, as it cannot be stored/recreated procedurally, then I'd want to be able to make all the land from -5000, -5000 to +5000, +5000, as a starting base, and tweak those.
It should be possible to specify underground feature locations. I've noticed, for example, that ocean biomes tend to have underwater landscapes. In most cases, there are underground caves directly under those underwater hills at some level -- like the ocean biomes are generated by putting air pockets into the mostly flat underworld and letting those air pockets push landscapes and islands up. I'd like to be able to do this -- specify where there will be underground features pushing up the lands.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
now im sure that this will put a LOT of weight on the game,
so before all this, Mojang should focus on making the game need less ram to run ^^ to fix the air blocks and whatnot,
anyways, this will put loads of weight on the game, and we're laggy enough, for the landscaping and whatnot, you have mods and programs such as MC Edit, BUT, i 100% agree with the temperature/biome control, ive wanted this for AGES, but alas, Mojang ignores the important stuff, and decides to add in..cats..
im kidding though, every update is amazing, and i love mojang for it xD
but i would rather love having control over where it snows and where it rains, and where stuff dies of dehydration, it would give it a very God-like feel to the game (more so than creative already has)
so yes, i agree with the temp/biome controls :smile.gif:

I think the same thing as this guy.
all of those this would be sweet but might take up to much ram.
You have my support on this! Hopefully a way can be found to do this without making it too hardware-intensive.
it wont be, it will be just like how notch added the "super-flat" map type, it wont do much, because all youre doing is giving the user permission to change the hard-code of the map, infact this would be an easy mod to construct :tongue.gif:
