couldnt find anything even remotely like this but if you can then please let me know!
theres tons of abandoned mineshafts but there arent any fully working ones. what i was thinking is when a town is created give it a 1 in 50 chance (or whatever variable the devs wanna use) of spawning an active mineshaft next to the town. this would start out as a few small tunnels. put 3 villagers inside that are given a new miner outfit. basicly give them a new AI thats grid based and works like this.
they will break normal rock blocks along a strait path (break speed is the same as it usualy is for the player using bare hands) and when they run into any other material they will turn 90 degrees to the right/left or 180 degrees to be facing oposite what they were last facing. this would slowly create 1 by 2 by (however long the tunnel is) tunnels and would somewhat give the feel of an actively working mine.
i would go further to say that when they dig one block infront of them then the surrounding blocks are removed creating a 3 by 3 tunnel instead of a 1 by 2. then support struts are placed at the same intevals that they are currently placed in the abandoned mineshafts. however i do feel that this would be very hard to program.
perhaps if at all possible make it so that they put torches up at regular intervals?
anyways sorry for my spelling as im not the best writer and i hope that people like this idea!
And it's not as if it'd be too easy to use in Survival (The block you need for it is created by basically making a chest or furnace except instead of planks/stone you use wood) because you need this thing called UPKEEP. It takes like, 128 coal, 128 sticks, god knows how many wooden planks and a diamond pickaxe for the best quality. (For the worst, everything I just said except with a wooden pickaxe)

i dont want slaves and i dont want mods (mods ruin the gameplay because it isnt somthing that you will see in every server you play) personaly i feel that it makes no sense having abandoned mineshafts but no working mineshafts that arent player run
