Here's the situation: you have a well hidden fort on a PVP server, but the enemy has been told of it's location. You realize that an army is charging it so there are two things you have to do: rush down and hit a button that opens up the defenses, and notify your friends of the attack. However, to notify out friends, you need to type out 'were under attack get here ASAP' even though it would only take a few seconds, that's all the enemy needs. But if you go to then button first, you will have to hold off the enemy and will be short on time to type out a message. Because you can't move while typing, you would die. What do you do?
With my idea, both at the same time. I think that when you enter chat, your movement controls should automatically shift to the arrow keys. This would allow you to run to the defense button and issue the warning to your friends at the same time: and you could even push the button while typing if needed. With just thist little update, you could save your fort from the enemy invaders.
If you have any other ideas involving multiplayer chat movement, please post it :biggrin.gif:
That would be great, but good luck navigating with the arrow keys while typing. Perhaps press R for autorun?? :smile.gif:
The idea isn't getting in to complex movement or anything like that, but being able to move forward while typing, plus, what I'd you needed to type an r?
But otherwise, I actually tested this several times and it is possible. It would just slow you down a bit.
Dude! I was having the same, exact idea yesterday! Like if you were being chased by a bandit (In RP or something) and he was going to kill you, you wouldn't be able to negotiate with him. But if you could type out a simple "Wait!" or "Hold up a second!" while running, it could definitely add to the roleplaying experience and it'd make conversation more dynamic.
A macro is a short command that you can access with a simple press of a hotkey. For example, if you set up the (fake) hotkey Control + I to type out "We're under attack! Get here ASAP!" then if you pressed the keys Control + I it would automatically send that message.
Frankly I think macros would be much more useful than this idea, but I like the general concept.

In the options menu, you could set chat macros. press, say, ALT+1 and it says the first one. ALT+2 says the second one, etc.
Get to a secluded area and warn ahead of time.
Or use faction chat, pretty sure most PVP servers have those.
Maybe even steam, or a PM through chat.
My point is, this idea seems kinda useless seeing as it could simply be sstopped by barricading yourself in a small box.
Uuuhhhh, what?
