My idea, is to need a certain amount of ores to repair an item.
Ex: Putting an Iron Pickaxe with 1/2 durability left, in the crafting table with ONE piece of iron, it would improve it 33%
This isn't in all cases. For spades/shovels, you would only need one ore to fully repair the item.
List of repair suggestions:
Pickaxe: 1 ore will repair 1/3
Axe: 1 ore will repair 1/3
Hoe: 1 ore will repair 1/2
Spade/Shovel: 1 ore will repair 100%
So in short: You no longer should have to create a tool to repair an item, as this in many cases is a waste of durability. You should be granted the opportunity to put in so and so amount of ores for repair. (The ore corresponds to the ore the tool was used to make)
Any thoughts? I think this would improve the game repair system a lot.
So you have 2 tools, nearly broken. What you do is take them apart, patch them up and combine them. Now you have a stronger, single pick. At least I think it goes like that.
What you are supposed to do is carry 2 of the tool with you. When one has reached about 1/3rd durability, you switch to the other. Once they are both at 2/3rds durability, you repair them to get more uses total out of it.
I've had this thought before, but it runs into difficulty when it comes to non-uniform tools like flint and steel; plus shovels are plain not worth it.

Nope, it actually gives more durability to repair 2 tools. :I
Let me elaborate: Go to your garage right now, pick up two screw-drivers..Well? Has one been repaired yet? No.
Not only is the repairing in Minecraft unrealistic and doesn't make sense, it could just be improved so ever lightly.

Thank you :biggrin.gif:
You could go into a cave with one iron pickaxe and no wood and survive! Awesome!
Doesnt seem OP because it uses as much ore as it would take to make a new one, technically.
