It seems that many things have NO use whatsoever in Minecraft. Cactus, lapis, pumpkins, cookies, LEATHER.
So today I focus on leather, and a new form of travel.

Leather Straps
Making a leather strap is quite easy, simply 6 leather, and 3 string.

THE IDEA
Now, the idea is simple. You can place saddles on pigs, and ride on them. But when you hop on a random pig, it will just circle in random directions, as pigs do.
That is where your trust WHIP comes in! 'Whipping' (hitting) a pig with the whip will give you full control over the pig! No, the pig is slightly faster than they player. It travels at 6 blocks, at regular speed. But when you hit the pig with the whip again(no knockback is induced) its speed jumps to an amazing 8 blocks per second!
But there are some drawbacks.
1. The speed slowly reduces from 8, back to 6 blocks per second. The speed returns to 6 at around .1 per second. So you have 20 second speed boost.
2. Hitting the pig causes it damage! When you hit the pig, it receives 1/4 a heart of damage.
To heal the pig, feed it wheat.
3. It will damage your whip. The whip has around 140 uses, making it last quit a few pig trips.
4. While riding the pig, making it run too fast for too long(whipping it constantly) will make it either die, or 'fatigue'. When a pig is fatigued, it travels slightly slower than the regular player speed. To get rid of fatigue, wait, or feed the pig wheat to speed up the process.
Uh... If you check out armor (armour if you speak backwards English), you'll find that a full suit of fully repaired anything can reduce damage by 80%. As a matter of fact, each half-bar of armor represents 4% damage absorption.
What does this mean? The difference between:
no armor - 10 hearts
1 armor - (8% reduction) 9.2 hearts (round to 9)
2 armor - (16% reduction) 8.4 hearts (round to 8.5)
3 armor - (24% reduction) 7.6 hearts (round to 7.5)
4 armor - (32% reduction) 6.8 hearts (round to 7)
5 armor - (40% reduction) 6 hearts 6 armor - (48% reduction) 5.2 hearts (round to 5) <-- This is the point where ANY armor reduces damage by half
7 armor - (56% reduction) 4.4 hearts (round to 4.5)
8 armor - (64% reduction) 3.6 hearts (round to 3.5)
9 armor - (72% reduction) 2.8 hearts (round to 3)
10 armor - (80% reduction) 2 hearts
Now, leather may have a gross lack of durability, but I would hardly say it's worthless simply given that it has the potential to absorb 80% of incoming damage.
How about rugs. A rug could be crafted with 3 leather on the bottom, and a dye on top. Rugs would basically function as paintings on the floor, with a random design being picked upon placing it. The design would then be colored in by the dye. You like?

Make sure to lock your pigs up!
Sorry there aren't any pictures :3
